V

V‘ returns to television on November 3rd on ABC !

An intriguing photo of Morena Baccarin who plays Anna, leader of the Visitors.

The show looks like it will be very good, be interesting to see how it turns out. It should be more impressive given the filmmaking technologies since the original show, also wonder if they’ll throw in a few surprises scriptwise.

Here is an updated preview of ‘V

The producers were going to do a very interesting stunt to promoted this show, but now unfortunately it has been cancelled. They were going to write a large red V in the sky near 26 major landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty. (That would have been awesome!)

I have the screener, which I’ve yet to watch, and I’m really rather excited to see how the show comes together.

  2. Btown says:

Can I ask how you got a hold of the screener? And do you fancy sharing it? ;-)
‘Juliet’ from Lost is in this show, looks promising!

  3. Keleher says:

Wow, Niall, large red V’s in the skies would have been great, wonder if they cancelled due to a cost or fear factor ?

  4. Niall says:

@Keleher “The Washington Posted noted ABC wouldn’t be V-ifying Washington D.C. due to airspace restrictions put in place after Sept. 11, and they also complained the concept was environmentally unfriendly. ”

@Btown There’s a few sites out there that have it but I don’t promote or condone piracy. I have it purely for review purposes.

  5. Keleher says:

Thanks, Niall, for the explanation, wonder what the environmental problem might have been, work for the EPA here.

  6. Emlyn says:

As a fan (and at-the-time watcher) of the original series, i’m excited! :)

  7. Emlyn says:

Wondering if they’re gonna stick with the old lizard concept though. And I heard that the original only used that on the insistance of the network/producers - in order to spice it up as i believe. Was scary either way.

  8. Keleher says:

I did see some photos showing Anna showing some lizard skin.. it was scary then, but not sure if it really works, a bi-ped lizard within the human framework.
I think the fact that they are here, in a somwhat ‘Indepdence Day’ sort of way would be alarming enough. Curing our ills aside, humans are rarely, truly trusting amongst ourselves, so I think its a tough sell that we’d trust Visitors..

Won’t be bothered with this at all. Never have seen the point in remakes and I have said it before but it would be great to actually see some originality in new shows. Just taking something that has been done before and updating it does not appeal to me most of the time.

  10. Keleher says:

Hi Peter, I’d be with you regarding remakes alright, but its been like 25 years, definitely looks most interesting, I will watch V to see how they show n’ tell the story now. Will get back with a review versus a preview after seeing a month of shows.

  11. Niall says:

@Peter The remake of Battlestar Galactica was damn fine television. But I do get your point, originality would be refreshing.

  12. Peter says:

For me it comes down to this: Would I rather see an older series which I loved reimagined OR would I rather see something brand new that I can love all afresh.
Don’t get me wrong - there have been some fine remakes which I have enjoyed - but they simply dont pack the punch or freshness which the originals did back in the day.

  13. Keleher says:

I was a fan of the original Battlestar Galactica but did not watch any of the more recent version. It is possible I did not watch because a fave of mine was up against it time slot wise. ‘V’ is taking on ‘NCIS’, a fave of mine, the DVR will be busy :)

  14. Emlyn says:

I’m willing to give a remake a chance if it does something fresh with the original concept/or the original concept was great, but poorly executed first time around. Unfortunately brainless remakes are in vogue now because they’re (a) quick to make, and (b) almost guaranteed to make a pile of money - though that applies more to movies than tv. Most of the big studios are just not willing to take a chance on truly original material. And even when that does come along from an outside source, they just instantly remake it for the multiplexes (which they are doing for ‘Let The Right One In’ amongst others.) It is a tad insulting to the intelligence of (most) movie audiences methinks.

Most pointless movie remake ever…Psycho. Waste of a (mostly) good cast, literally remade shot-for-shot, and a ridiculously over-the-top performance by Vince Vaughan…WHY?!? lol

@ Niall- Have never gotten around to watching Battlestar Galactica, but have only ever heard great things about it!

  15. Keleher says:

Looks like the video has vanished :(

  16. Keleher says:

Thanks to Niall and Darren for help replacing the video :)

  17. Paul O'Regan says:

Starting on TV3 on Thursday, so I’ll watch it then. Should be alright.

Watched the entire ‘V’ mini-series from 1983 on the SyFy channel yesterday, was good to see it again, will see it compares to the new ‘V’ series.
