Rick Flock Of Five - 04/11/09

The Swell Season - Strict Joy I suppose your feelings about this album depends on how you feel about Glen Hansard personally. A lot of people have a bizarre irrational hatred of a guy who’s written some of the best and most heartbreaking Irish songs of the last ten years (you can guess from this that I’m not one of them). This second Swell Season album is different from the first. Pitched maybe halfway between the tone of the first and a traditional Frames album it’s less melodic and wistful and lovely and perhaps forgettable. Not sure. Cheryl Cole - 3 Words Jaysus, where do I go with this. Firstly, she sings a bit differently than she talks, you should know that. It’s all very well produced inoffensive generic pop souffle nonsense, but Britney she ain’t. Even the new crap version of Britney. Sorry Cheryl. I still love ya and … There’s more

Robbie Williams - Reality Bites

Robbie Williams has spent the last couple of years living it large in LA or wandering across the lands in search of aliens. Clearly LA got too much and the alien hunting proved fruitless, because he’s back with his first album since 2006′s mishmash, Rudebox. When I heard the first single, Bodies, earlier this year, I was impressed. It was a grower, but it had a good heavy sound and was a different spin on recent pop tracks. I was immediately excited about the prospect of a quality Robbie album. My excitement was misplaced, as Reality Killed the Video Star is less than impressive. For me, Bodies is the best song on the album - it stands out as different in … There’s more

Oscar Hosts Don’t Wear Plaid

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin have been announced as the co-hosts of the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony next March. Okay this is awesome, not quite the rumoured Neil Patrick Harris presenting the Oscars level of awesome, but awesome nonetheless. Both Baldwin and Martin, who co-incidentally are vying with each other for the Saturday Night Live guest hosting record, are extremely funny guys. Baldwin’s portrayal of Jack Donaghy in 30 Rock is one of the funniest things on TV.

Was Paris Hilton in Dublin yesterday? Twitterers seem to think so…

It certainly seems so. Good friend of mine tweeted this yesterday… It was followed up by this tweet and there were a couple of shots taken of Paris Hilton in Weirs, the big jewellery shop on Grafton Street, outside BT2 and generally making her mark on the south side…

Colonel Popcorn’s Minute Movie Mystery

You know the rules, no cheating or something bad will happen to a random puppy. I live right beside a shelter too, so don’t think I won’t. Guess the movie - Released in 1990. Robert Downey Jr, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey were all considered for the lead role. The first draft of the script was written as a musical. Only 169 words are spoken by the title character. Backstreet Boy, Nick Carter was also in this film. Albeit briefly.
