Alright folks it’s that of year again. Jingle bells are ringing, choirs are warming their vocal chords and postmen everywhere are inundated with cards and notes to a certain jolly old man dressed all in red. Being that the festive season is now upon us I have decided to embark on a little project. From December 1st till Christmas Day I will be unveiling one movie every day in a sort of advent calendar, which will make up what I consider to be the Top 25 Movies of 2009. On the picture above one window will be opened each day, revealing the poster of the movie selected, until all 25 are revealed in their full glory. So then, place your bets now!

You may not know the name Gary Brolsma or know the tune of the song Dragostea din tei by Romanian band O-zone offhand, but if I said it’s the Numa Numa video from 2004, one of the most famous internet virals out there, you’d probably get it. Have a look at his most recent outing. Geek that I am, I’m terribly impressed by his performance with the MSU Marching Band. I love seeing the online and offline merge. The way it should be. Photo by Andrew Downes Comedy maniacs - and childhood friends - Tommy Tiernan and Hector Ó hEochagáin are getting together for a one off comedy talk show that will go out on RTÉ 1 at 9.30pm on December 27.

Farewell to north inner city Dublin - Part 3: The Coffee shops

For part 3 of my (long) farewell to the north inner city, I’m focusing on the coffee shops. And trying to avoid the franchise ones. In Cahoots is found a couple of doors away from the wonderful Chapters book store on Parnell street. It opens until around 8 o’clock most days, and has a friendly atmosphere. The good bits: Dirt cheap. Friendly staff. Fast service. Close to Henry street, the Ilac centre and Chapters book store. Killer deserts, to do some extra damage to all your problem areas. The bad bits: Sometimes gets noisy if you’re trying to read a book. Coffee isn’t great, it can taste a little scorched.
