Forget about Thierry Henry, forget about Sepp Blatter. Floods, Bishops and Biffo have left us with more than our fair share of doom and gloom. So we, as a nation, need something to get behind. We need something to cheer.
So how about this? An Irish man has a shot at the WWE Title! Yes folks you read it right.
A Dublin born, fluent Gaeilgóir, with a shock of red hair. Skin as pale as the driven snow, 6 ft 6, 280 lbs, his name is Sheamus O’ Shaunessy, The Celtic Warrior. He is the living embodiment of Ireland. He sang in the Palestrina Choir until the age of thirteen, as part of which he appeared on the Late Late Toy Show. He also played GAA for Erins Isle in Finglas and in later years was a personal security guard for Bono don’t ya know.
He has been a two-time International Heavyweight Champion during his tenure in Irish Whip Wrestling. And in 2006 he signed up to WWE under its Raw banner. His ring entering music is fittingly called “The Irish Curse”.
On Raw recently, Sheamus won the first-ever Breakthrough Battle Royal to earn a title match against current WWE Champion John Cena at next month’s WWE TLC (Tables, Ladders & Chairs) pay-per-view. Sheamus will be taking on Cena in a Tables Match for the WWE Title on December 13th. To be World Champion people!
So come on Sheamus! Give it a blast of that patented Fiery Red Hand. And finish him off with your legendary crucifix powerbomb. But most of all… Do it for Ireland!
GO here to join Clan O Shaunessy.
With a nod and a wink to The Coffey Filter.
Good luck to him !
Keleher, good luck to him indeed!
Indeed, to him, good luck!
Good luck but…
Isn’t this stuff decided ahead of time though?
No Anto, you’re confusing this with FIFA! Sepp Blatter has no involvement in WWE as far as I’m aware!
My beejebus I am a long time out of WWE. There is an Irish lad in it going for the title?
Used to love this and remember watching the first wrestlemania in my cousins place YEARS ago. Haven’t see it in years now
Met Mick Foley once - he’s a cool guy I have to say
I loved it too Peter. Back in the days of The Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man Randy Savage. The world was a simpler place back then!
So, is Hulk Hogan still in it?
Darren I think the Hulkster realised there’s more dollars in reality TV. More room for his ego too!
