Since when did the Irish Famine become something to laugh at?

I don’t know - maybe I’m far too serious for my own good - maybe the Great Famine is something to laugh about, given it’s so long ago. Maybe too this video is just a gentle satire of the current situation and maybe, if it was happening today, this sort of thing might actually happen.

The Irish Famine: Do they know it’s Christmas? from the show “The Savage Eye”. I haven’t seen it before. Based on that I certainly won’t be watching it.

I just don’t find it tasteful or funny - though it is David McSavage - and was quite surprised to see it on RTE’s YouTube account at all.

What’s your take on it?

Comedy is tragedy plus time minus David McSavage.

Without even bothering to watch either the linked video or the show I know it is pure shite.

    The man is beyond awful.

I enjoyed the sketch. I think he was making fun of Live Aid rather than famine. I don’t think famine should be off limits. It is part of our culture of never-ending victimhood.

Agreed with anonopinion. Don’t think it’s funny, but don’t think it’s offensive either. He’s making fun of pop stars and charity singles, not famine victims.

I know its serious subject, but in the context of the show this worked. It doesn’t necessarily hold up outside of it though.
Normally I hate McSavage, but I watched that episode of The Savage Eye and I found it kinda humorous!!
