Choice Music Prize 2009 Shortlist

The shortlist for Choice Music Prize - Irish Album of the Year 2009 has just been announced. The awards event will take place in Vicar Street, Dublin on Wednesday March 3 and as in previous years will feature performances from most if not all of the nominees. Tickets cost €27 euro including booking fees and go on sale on Monday next.

The Temple Bar Tradfest 2010

Living in Ballyboughal I am surrounded by some of the finest traditional irish music players the country has ever seen… I’m surrounded by a history of what seems to some to have never moved on… a history brimmed with stories of great nights and legendary sessions in O’Connors pub or up in The Naul where the likes of Seamus Ennis was born and reared. And it is amazing when people nee friends come out to where I live to see what happens every Friday night. It wasn’t until I heard Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh speaking at the launch of the Tradfest that I realised how difficult it is for an Irish music player/ singer to make a living from that in this country…
