Got To Dance

Yes, another talent show!

Got To Dance judges and host

There is a serious tidal wave of talent shows on tv these days from X Factor to Britain’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent, American Idol, Dancing on Ice, Strictly Come Dancing, Popstar to Operastar etc. etc. One of the American ones I have always enjoyed, though not watched religiously, has been So You Think You Can Dance. So You Think You Can Dance came to the UK this year and the show is being broadcast on Saturdays on BBC and now Sky One have come up with a similar type of dance talent show. In fact, I am enjoying Got To Dance, the Sky One show, much more than the UK version of SYTYCD. The three judges are much more interesting - and let’s face it - better looking and more talented, than the judges on So You Think You Can Dance. The Got To Dance judges are, Ashley Banjo, street dancer with Diversity, the crew who beat one Susan Boyle in Britain’s Got Talent last year, Kimberley Wyatt of the Pussycat Dolls and tap dancing sensation and West End star, Adam Garcia. It’s also hosted by Davina McCall-that girl gets around!

It is a fairly short series in comparison to some of the other talent shows and last Sunday saw the second of three semi-final shows where six of the short-listed contestants danced for a place in the final. Only two acts from each of the three semi-finals get through to the live final and presumably there will be one big final with the last six acts.

There was a fabulous Irish group of street dancers, Raw Edge, who got through to the semi-finals but unfortunately they didn’t get through on Sunday. I thought they were pretty good though.

The talent of all the semi-finalists is amazing. Unfortunately the decision is ultimately up to the viewers and any young kids, whether solo or in a group, seem to be getting voted in ahead of other fantastic acts. Still, the semi-finals have been fun so far and I am most definitely looking forward to seeing this little guy Akai perform again next Sunday for a place in the final. He’s only 10 and has been dancing for one year. One!!

This young guy Matthew Koon, however, has already gotten through to the final and is very likely to win. He’s amazing!

Got To Dance is on Sundays on Sky One at 6pm.

Catherine - it is, isn’t it? And it doesn’t have the feel of manufactured just to make money like a lot of the others have now. They only open the phone lines for 5-10 minutes for votes.

Jelly Monster-she’s hawt isn’t she? Did you see her dance routine last week? Whoa!

  4. I didn’t see it but that leg thing she does drives me wild!

Oh yeah she did that at the end, leg straight up along the side of her head and then bent it over…you could see even the lads - Ashley and Adam - were gobsmacked, lol. That girl is bendy!!
