Sound Advice: BWW and Local Natives

This is the first of a regular new column from Pamela. Make her feel welcome here at Culch.ie.

Name: Bitches with Wolves

Genre: Pop

Upcoming Gigs: 7.30pm 10th and 17th April, The Academy Dublin

James O'NeillThey describe their sound as ‘Sasha Fierce writhing on a glitterball disco in the midst of darkly delicious travels into the night’s ether.’

That is exactly what you will get. These guys will definitely bring you on an adventure as you listen to them. Main vocals are by the flamboyant James O’Neill, who is a true Irish popstar.

This April is the start of BWWs headlining gigs, however being in the spotlight is not a new phenomenon for this trio as they supported Calvin Harris, Groove Armada and Fatboy Slim.

When you listen to BWW expect to be mesmerized by the beats that will have you wanting to see them live. As for what to expect from a live show? Floor filling tracks, glittery costumes and audience participation - most importantly though it’s a show not to be missed if you are keen to say ‘I saw them when they were starting off’. BWW are definitely ones to watch.

They are on MySpace and Facebook and here’s a great track from the band, Broken Hearts:

Name: Local Natives

Genre: Indie/Folk Pop

Album: Gorilla Manor

Local Natives' Gorilla ManorIf you like Vampire Weekend and Mumford and Sons

Local Natives’ first notable appearance was at the music festival South by Southwest last year, they were tipped to make even a bigger impression this yeah and with nine shows in three days they did just that. They have since begun their first major headlining tour and were in The Academy Dublin a few weeks and are sure to appear on some festival line ups soon.

Local Natives themselves consist of a quintet that create some great indie/rock tracks. They are L.A. based and their debut album is titled Gorilla Manor after their house where the album was written. The appealing aspect to Local Natives is that they don’t have one lead vocal instead they have three lush vocal harmonies from band members of keyboardist Kelcey Ayer and guitarists Ryan Hahn and Taylor Rice.

These guys really are worth a listen (below is Airplanes) but I would also recommend Sun Hands available on their MySpace page.
