How excited am I that clever duo Jason Webley (whose superpower is making the accordion cool) and Amanda Palmer (her of Dresden Dolls and, er, Amanda Palmer fame) are bringing those Evelyn Evelyn girls to The Academy, Dublin this April 19th? Well, guess: Evelyn and Evelyn Neville are conjoined twins who perform their darkly bouncy songs on piano, guitar, ukulele and accordion. Also, they were once the star attraction at Dillard & Fullerton’s Illusive Travelling Show. Also, they site their influences as 80′s music and showtunes and Joy Division and the Andrews Sisters. Also, they may not be entirely real. So yup, I’m pretty excited. Why not be a little excited alongside me?
Amanda and Jason are, of course, the creators of Evelyn Evelyn, a concept born when Amanda told Jason that The Dresden Dolls were nearly called Eleven Eleven. The first song they wrote for the twins was Elephant Elephant - interesting girls are entitled to an interesting pet, after all - but the muse proved delightfully fecund, so here they are on their world tour. With songs both peculiar and poignant coaxing the listener into the twins’ world, this should be an evening to remember. I’ll be heading along, naturally, although not in the Gothic burlesque garb that looks so great on Amanda. Fishnets make my thighs look like sieved marshmallow.
There are still tickets available from Ticketmaster at €22.50 incl. booking fee. And keep in mind that the show is Over 14s, so no alcohol will be served.
We have tickets for this and I cannot wait to go. Saw Amanda at the Edinburgh Festival and really loved the show, but I think that the Evelyn Evelyn performance is going to be even more special.
The album is beautiful and amazing. Myself and my other half have been listening to it constantly since we got it.
I love their new project. The recent controversy over Evelyn Evelyn seems to have calmed down thankfully. Judging by the footage of their live performances, this should be another great show from AFP and from Webley!
