Competition Closed: Win Tickets For Kele Okereke At The Academy

*** Competition Now Closed ***

*** Congratulations to ruthieor and thanks to everyone who entered! ***

What could be more thrilling than getting a special, intimate preview of his new album at Kele Okereke’s first solo tour? Why, being there compliments of Culch.ie, sillies!

Kele Okereke is, of course, Bloc Party’s frontman - enigmatic, a bit of a smartarse, and rather funky to boot. With Bloc Party on hiatus (something even a taskmaster like me can forgive them for, such was the quality and quantity of their output in the last five years), he’s been in the studio, putting together his solo album. It’s called The Boxer, and it’s released on 21st June, with first single Tenderoni released on June 14th.

The Boxer promises to blur the distinction between cerebral pop and dance music, something that gets this glowstick graduate very hot under the neon collar indeed. Bloc Party are, of course, the great rocktronica band of the naughts, and since the release of Flux I’ve been quietly gaspin’ for more evidence of Kele’s techno leanings. Gratifying, then, that he’s said that The Boxer is all about “the sounds that make me the happiest in the world”. Even more gratifying that he’s playing four Irish dates to make us all happy, too. Tickets are on sale now for Dolan’s Warehouse, Limerick on Friday 14th of May. Cyprus Avenue, Cork on Saturday the 15th. The Academy, Dublin, on Sunday 16th . And Spring & Airbrake, Belfast on Monday, 17th. Check venue websites for full details.

Culch.ie have two tickets for Kele’s gig at the Academy, Dublin on Sunday, 16th of May, to give away to one of you lucky, lucky, dancey sorts. Drop us a comment before 1st May if you’d like to be in with a chance. Coz I really can’t imagine this to be anything short of legendary [/teenagehyperbole]

About Lisa McInerney

That cranky young wan from award-winning blog, Arse End Of Ireland, Lisa’s also noted for her dedication to cobbling together unrelated imprecations to make new and bemusing insults, mostly because she’s not eloquent enough to otherwise explain her deep-seated terror of genre fiction and Fianna Fail. In 2006, The Irish Times called her “… the most talented writer at work in Ireland today”, and her mam still can’t understand why this is better than being the new Marian Keyes. Which it totally is.
