Name: Darwin Deez
Genre: Indie Pop
Album: Debut Self Titled Album ‘Darwin Deez’
If you like Two Door Cinema Club, Death Cab for Cutie or Lady Gaga…
Yes, you read that correctly, this album is a mish mash of the very best influences around at the moment. Darwin Deez released his debut LP on April 12 and there’s plenty to know about this guy. Bringing the quirk to quirky, he has been known to choreograph synchronised dance routines to Beyonce and the Bangles which spring from no where in mid performance and lyrically he has rhymed ‘Los Angeles’ with ‘televangelist’.
His songs are mostly stripped down and kept simple which is understandable since he made his album in his own apartment using only a PC and a mic. However, tracks like Radar Detector which is as sweet and fun as you are going to get and the track ‘Bad Day’ where Darwin is somehow charming, even though the track is aimed at a romantic rival wishing him a list of misfortunes one of which is ‘I hope that the last page of your 800 page novel is missing.’ is delightful.
If you are looking for a cheery, sweet, fun, quirky lyrics and a great summer album this is one to consider.

If you like Jack Johnson or Jason Mraz…
This young Pittsburgh twentysomething has been making music for the past five years and is unsigned and self managed but I have a feeling not for long as he is currently touring America. He has two previous LPs ‘The Weight of Words’ and ‘Like I Mean It’ and three of his tracks have been on TV Shows namely Private Practice and MTV’s The Real World.
Moakler writes catchy sweet melodies that will quickly become your soundtrack once you have listened to them. His clear voice and fluid lyrics create an obstinate album that mixes acoustic with soft rock. The track ‘Hesitate’ is fragile and wistful with beautiful and heartfelt lyrics such as ‘’Cause I’m fearful of heights and you take me higher, What came with you was a view to admire.’, but before you think this is an album full of singer songwriter love songs listen to the track ‘Stay Away From Me’ which is heavy with drums and shows the diversity of Moakler’s album and writing talents and if you are still dubious listen to ‘False Alarms’ for a stronger pop rock track with beating drums and layering vocals.
There is nothing but bright lights waiting for Moakler.
