Game Review: Alan Wake

Alan Wake has been coming a long time. First announced five years ago, I thought it had fallen into oblivion but got word last month that it was imminent on Xbox 360. So has it been worth the wait? By and large, yes. Alan Wake is the titular character, a writer getting away to the Pacific north-west of the US with his wife. He’s been suffering writer’s block and believes the break will do them well. Bright Falls is the destination, a sleepy town set amongst the mountains and inhabited by folks who generally haven’t left the place. After picking up the keys to their cabin, things take a turn for the worse when Alan’s wife, Alice, goes missing in the dark. Bollywood is coming to Dublin

Bollywood is coming to Dublin with the capital set to host the first Indian Film Festival. The festival is scheduled to run from June 25th to 28th and will open with a gala screening of renowned Indian director Prakash Jha’s latest film Raajneeti, at Swan Cinemas in Rathmines. The opening festivities will feature a charity gala dinner, at which the Indian Ambassador to Ireland, P.S. Raghavan and Bollywood star Gul Panag will be in attendance. The festival will also feature seminars from writer and expert of Indian cinema Atul Tiawari. The subject of these seminars will include Indian film history and a special on Slumdog Millionaire. The festival hopes to foster and encourage local Irish film-makers to work with Indian film-makers, for the advancement of both film cultures. Kylie goes up to Eleven

Kylie Minogue releases her eleventh studio album, her fifth for the Parlophone label, called “Aphrodite” around July 5th. I say around because of the way the charts are calculated in Ireland, releases tend to be on the Friday. The first single, “All The Lovers” is due for release around June 13th. Propaganda: Battle of the Radio Stations

Here’s a fun event for your Saturday night, where you can see TodayFM’s Pamela Halton and Ed Smith and Phantom’s Michelle Doherty and Derek Ryan have a battle of the DJs in The Academy, Dublin. Over 10,000 people attend Propaganda club nights across the UK and Ireland every week and Propaganda plan to bring its very special audio-visual indie extravaganza to Dublin with some of the world’s biggest guest DJs.
