Kylie goes up to Eleven

Kylie Minogue releases her eleventh studio album, her fifth for the Parlophone label, called “Aphrodite” around July 5th. I say around because of the way the charts are calculated in Ireland, releases tend to be on the Friday. The first single, “All The Lovers” is due for release around June 13th. Parlophone put “All The Lovers” (audio only) on YouTube today.

A few bits have leaked out about the album…

The album celebrate her dance-floor roots and features Stuart Price as executive producer, who was introduced to her by the Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears. Price is also producing an album for the Scissor Sisters due out the week before Ms. Minogue’s release.

Other details are that the album will be a continuous mix but there will be tempo changes. While there aren’t going to be any ballads in the strictest sense, there may be some ballad type up tempo numbers. “All the Lovers” is being described as a “disco ballad”.

“All The Lovers” was written by Jim Eliot and Mima Stilwell formerly of Kish Mauve. The list of songwriters for the other tracks included Kylie herself, Stuart Price, Calvin Harris, Jake Shears, Nerina Pallot, Richard X (I love a good Mash-up background) and Keane’s Tim Rice-Oxley.

Some of the best leaks are from the Popjustice people. Price told them that the album would be a ‘houseparty’ record. All the tracks mix well together, which suggests that there may be quite a few numbers left off the album but might make good b-sides and bonus tracks simply because while there are good, they didn’t fit in the mix.

Another priceless leak is that a odd test was used on all the songs; A Dolly Parton Test. To see if a song would work , after the vocals had been recorded Kylie would then sing it in the style of Dolly Parton. If it sounded good, it passed. Personally I want to hear that version, or see if Stuart Price will do a Dolly Parton cover of the Aphrodite album.

“Aphrodite” is out around July 5th and “All The Lovers” is due for release by Parlophone around June 13th.

knew a song would work if it made sense when sung in the style of Dolly Parton

That photo is weird. Doesn’t look like her.

Looks a bit like Kate Moss.

  3. I remember when Kylie Minogue performed in Manchester England that she was struckby a flu. She really had to cut it short as she couldn’t perform with feeling ill. She just loves all her admirers that she didn’t want to turn them down.
