It’s always been the standard by which fame is judged.
“Have you been on the cover of the RTÉ Guide?”
“No…”
“Well then you’re clearly not famous. Back of the queue.”
The RTÉ Guide are cleverly capitalising on the secret lust for fame of the Irish people with their new “Become a Star” roadshow, which took place in Limerick yesterday and today, and heads to Waterford (City Square S. C. Thursday) next weekend, Thursday 27th and Friday 28th May. From 12 - 6 each day, if you bring a proof of purchase of the RTÉ Guide to the helpful folk at the booth, they will take your photo (with the white background and the fancy umbrella things and the whole lot), superimpose it onto the Guide cover of your choice, and then print it out for you to take home for your Mammy to frame.
I was there not long after they opened for business and there were a lot of parents with little kids taking advantage of the (mostly) free photographer. There was a little delay in getting the printer working, but once they got that sorted, things moved pretty quickly. It’s a fun (if cheesy) idea, and a cute way of impressing the grandparents.
So if you’re around Waterford next week, call in with your Guide and embrace the cheesiness.
I know, I’m not photogenic.
The Mammy will still totally frame it, though.
That’s a shocking amount of cheesy. I love it.
I wonder if we could get them to come along to the Eurovision night and do a “Eurovision Special RTÉ Guide”…
