After an amazing Arthur’s Day last year to celebrate the 250th anniversary, Guinness are back with events taking place in Dublin, Cork and Galway on Thursday 23rd September. The three flagship venues will host acts like Snow Patrol, Paolo Nutini, Heathers, The Magic Numbers, The View and a load more. In a unique twist for this year, 100 up and coming acts can be a part of the festivities. Every Thursday from mid July through to early August, Guinness are running events called ‘My Thursdays’ (www.guinness.com/ourthursdays), in pubs across the land giving acts the chance to showcase their talents. From those 100 acts, three will be chosen to feature in Hopstore 13, Cork and Galway alongside the biggest acts on the bill. Not a bad prize eh?
Proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to the Arthur Guinness Fund, which has assigned one million euro to social entrepreneurs so far. Speaking candidly at the launch, Paolo Nutini described his experiences of last years Arthur’s Day and his affection for Irish crowds: “Yeah the Irish crowds are really loose, y’know. We got on well. We’re all Celts”. He loves the idea of younger bands getting the chance to play on the same bill as big global acts like Snow Patrol. He also described the process around recording ‘Sunny Side Up’ in Westmeath. Morning solo sessions were followed up with band work and exploring towns like Moate and Athlone. His next album will find it’s “foundations in (my) house” before moving on to a studio which gives an insight to how he writes and finds each album’s sound.
Ticket information will be available in mid-July so check out guinness.com
Unimpressed by the uninspired, boring and rather blah blah blah line up. Guess year one was to wow and from here on out it’s a general lack luster event
Wow, it’s like Terry and Cyni are the same cranky person!
