Rediscover Fashion Show 2010

I attended my first fashion show yesterday. Primarily, my reasons were environmentally green and to that matter I’ve put [all] those green bits over on the green weblog. This was a fashion show. A new collection. And this culch.ie post is to applaud [or appraise] the reasons everyone else attended the fashion show yesterday evening. Hosted by Brendan Courtney who I must say did an amazing job keeping me entertained. The collection was designed by Carrie-Ann Moran and held a candy [sweet] theme to it. With that in mind, I loved that all of the jewelery was made from real [edible] sweets. I spoke Rebecca Kenny about the collection. Rebecca is a good friend and first year fashion design student in Colaiste Dhulaigh. More than that she has an eye for that little bit unique and [I find] someone who hasn’t been regimed in her thoughts … There’s more

His & Hers

His & Hers is a beautiful and charming Irish-made film. It is not often that those words are used to describe a documentary but this one deserves them and more. Directed by Ken Wardrop and produced by Andrew Freedman, His & Hers won the Audience award in the Dublin International Film Festival as well as The Feature Award in the Galway Film Fleadh, an IFTA for Best Feature Documentary and the Cinematography Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2010. Men, if you have an Irish mammy or sister, girlfriend, wife, daughter I recommend that you see this. Women, it describes perfectly in the words of other females every male-female relationship you have ever had in your life.

The 39 Steps at the Olympia

Last Saturday I made the grave decision to forego the sparkly delights of the Eurovision in order to see The 39 Steps in the Olympia Theatre. (I did have the Eurovision recording at home though, so I wasn’t completely turning my back on it, you understand.) The 39 Steps, in this particular incarnation is a hilarious parody of the Hitchcock movie which was based on an adventure novel from 1915. Our hero, Richard Hannay (stiff upper lip and frightfully resourceful, what what) becomes entangled in a plot of murder, intrigue and spies, with a Hitchcock blonde thrown in, and all pulled off with the most gleeful silliness imaginable.
