Here’s a gig I’m really looking forward to catching on Saturday night. Glória, Dublin’s Lesbian and Gay Choir, celebrate 15 years of singing together in the National Concert Hall.
Glória was founded in October 1995. An ad placed in GCN invited singers interested in forming a choir. About 25 people came along on that first night – some of whom still sing with the choir – and today the choir has a singing membership of 50.
The choir’s repertoire is wide ranging. The songs are chosen sometimes to surprise, sometimes to challenge, but always to entertain. Performing works from John Rutter’s spectacular Glória, excerpts from Carmina Burana (think Old Spice!) right through to songs from Glee, Funny Girl, The Wizard of Oz and Dolly Parton. Here’s a little sample of their Perfect Day…
I’ll be there and I have two tickets for you. Well, not all of you. Leave a comment below telling us your favourite song from Glee for your chance to win two tickets to see this wonderful choir in the gorgeous surroundings of the National Concert Hall.
Even if you don’t win, you can pick up tickets at NCH.ie from €15 to €30.
Am I the first? Great! I’m going to go with Defying Gravity, great song-off between Kurt and Rachel…..but then again Sue singing Vogue was also savage.
Right so: final answer: Sue singing Vogue.
‘And I’m telling you’ by Mercedes, Standing up to Rachel with her voice, she knocked them all away with this one. Great voice, great lyrics. Every ‘Glay’ (Get the word play?) sang this into a hairbrush…and meant it
Smeels like teen spirit
me fave glee song is ‘dont stop believing…’ & Gloria are singing it LIVE on Saturday night….. Gleean’s dont…they mime. Ah bless.
