Competition Closed: Win family tickets to Dublinia

*** Competition Closed ***

To celebrate the recent renovation of Dublinia and the opening of a new exhibition, History Hunters, Dublinia and Conway Communications have kindly offered us 3 family tickets (two adults, two children) to give away to three lucky Culch readers.

In case you haven’t heard of it, Dublinia is Ireland’s only Viking Medieval Heritage Centre located in the Christ Church area of Dublin. As part of the relaunch I got to visit Dublinia (for the first time ever!) and was really impressed. I can imagine taking a few kids there and them being totally engrossed in the life-like displays of huts, homes, market places and of course the real life Viking guides! The whole experience is multi-media, tactile and engaging and invites questions and participation from people rather than just viewing like in a museum. You’ll find out interesting nuggets of information, like the fact that many words we use in everyday English actually originated in old Norse, words like Egg, Ugly, Odd. To even get into the building you have to walk through a life size replica of a Viking ship!

The exhibition is organised in a very easy to understand chronological order over 3 floors with the newest addition, History Hunters, on the top floor. Whether you are a native Dubliner or not, you may remember or be aware that the Christ Church area of Dublin is rich in history-before the Civic Offices were built, when that area of Wood Quay was being excavated, many artefacts and remains were found on the site. History Hunters follows the story of this site, detailing everything from the protests against building on the site to the items found buried and what the site looked like or might have looked like for working archaeologists.

I didn’t have as much time as I would have liked to investigate the Dublinia exhibition but I will definitely be going back.

Now - tickets to be won :-) Just leave a comment with why you would like a family pass to Dublinia, that’s it! I’ll leave it open until next Wednesday 16 June and pick a winner then. Good luck!

  3. Audrey says:

With the summer kicking in there aint many educational places in Dublin to bring the kids to. This would be ideal. Plus if we win then its a free educational day our for me and the kids. Who knows I might learn more than they will!!!!

  4. Elly Parker says:

This was the one they launched for Dublin’s Millennia in 1988, right? If so, I was there that year, but barely remember any of it. I’d love to get tickets so I could take my youngest niece and nephew as a summer treat, I think they’d really enjoy it.

  5. Audrey says:

BTW…..was it not called Duvlina? When did they change its name or was I just a bit thick as a kid??

There ye go another reason why I deserve to win….to find out the answer to the above question!!!!

  6. Laura says:

I would love to win these to bring the kids to see it, I remember going there on a school tour when I was in 4th class and I absolutely LOVED it, I still remember the smell it was just brilliant and think my boys would get a real kick out of it:)

  7. Trisha says:

I remember going to this around the time it first opened (at least i think it was this!!) around 1988/89 on a school tour and i remember loving every second of it. i now have an eight year old who i’m sure would love it just as much as me and i also have a 4 year old who loves just about anything…….if i won if would give me a reason to leave the west for the week-end and take a much needed trip to Dublin………….(please please please!!!)

  8. Peter says:

  10. emer breen says:

I’d love to win these tickets for my friend who has 2 little kids, we could all go together when she comes to visit soon. Never been before but heard it’s a great day out and will keep the kids busy for a while - never an easy task!! Fingers crossed :)

  11. Ciara OReilly says:

I would love to go because ive never been :)

  12. Mella says:

On a rainy day, it can be hard to venture out into Dublin’s city centre in search of amusement without ending up trekking around all the hundreds of shops. From clothes to books, make up to music, town is teaming with retail indulgences.
Now, while I’m not complaining, we all love a good shop mooch, there’s only so much window shopping that you can do before your desire to actually experience something a bit more meaningful kicks in.
A trip to Dublinia would be the perfect place to learn about our city, it’s history, and lesser known aspects.

  13. Brendan says:

Hey, I’ve two daughters 10 and 6 that would love this, a few weeks ago we went to the dinosaurs exhibit, woeful, they were so disappointed, so i told them i entered this competition and told them how great the exhibition looked and how great the Culch.ie people are, i just don’t know now how i’d let them down, they’d probally cry.
