Canadian twin sisters, and music powerhouses, Tegan and Sara are doing a free in-store gig in Tower Records, Wicklow Street, Dublin at 2pm today (Tuesday June 15 2010).
If you are a fan, and there are a lot of fangirls (statistically a lot more women are fans) in Dublin who would love to see them up close before their Olympia date tonight and were probably at their Belfast gig last night.
The sisters began playing music together in high school. Around the age of 15 they started playing and writing their own material. They were signed by Elliot Roberts and Neil Young to Vapor Records in 2000. Tegan and Sara are now signed to Vapor/Sire/Warner Bros (that collection of labels reflects distribution limits rather than label problems). They have been recording and touring for over ten years, lets just say that they are pros that know what they are doing.
My own introduction to the Quin sisters was actually through a mash-up…
which completely changes their original plaintive pop rock number as you can hear…
But I think that Mylo mash-up ended up being constructive as their latest release shows… they have added a few new sounds to their repertory as you can hear in Alligator.
And that dance is just begging for a flash-mob.
I can’t wait for the gig tonight- I’ve seen them a couple of times already. Their banter is hilarious. I hope the Dublin crowd don’t heckle as much this time. I think they were a little freaked out with the screams of “take your tops off” at the last gig. When I saw them in London, they were much more relaxed. So it will be interesting to see what happens this time around.
