In a first experimental post, we were asked by GiftsDirect.com to have a look across their range and pick out our favourite Father’s Day Gifts. All of the content is my own, but each items I talk about is available from GiftsDirect.com. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Happy Father’s Day
Socks, a funny card with some vague reference to Golf, a new jacket that he’ll never wear, a pint down the local? Are these the usual gifts you get your dad on Father’s Day?
WHY? There’s so much more out there. Depending on what type of a man he is, there is so much to choose from. Here’s my top suggestions for Father’s Day gifts.
For the Adventurous Dad, how about sending him on the Rally Driving Experience. Granted, maybe he’s already a maniac driver, maybe he already goes too fast and takes chances on rough terrain. But this way he can do it without breaking the law. For €245.00 he could have all the training and safety instruction to prepare him for 24 laps around RallyConnection’s Waterford course. Or maybe your dad would be more into flying lessons (€99 per hour) or shooting (€90.00)?
Perhaps your dad would be more of a Traditionalist, like mine? Jameson 12 Year Old Special Reserve (€59) is an exceptionally smooth whiskey and is the best known and most popular aged Jameson Whiskey. The trouble with buying this is that I’d want it for myself. If you’re feeling very generous, treat him to a night in Palmerstown House and Golf Club, which includes two rounds of Golf on the award winning course for €199.00.
Is your Dad a Gadget Nut? Does he have the latest Macbook and is he eagerly awaiting the iPhone 4? Does he keep up to date with all the latest tech gear? Maybe you should show him the lighter side of gadgetry and help bring out the kid in him. I want I mean, he might like a Remote Control Micro Bladez Apache Helicopter. Inspired by the Apache Gunship that’s designed to hunt tanks and take on anything the modern battlefield can throw at it, the Micro-Bladez Apache is just awesome at only €48.99. The Apache benefits from three-channel control and the advanced auto-balance system and adjustable speed control for an advanced mini-RC flight.
There’s also a lovely gift in this wallet with a digital photo frame inside. It’s a brilliant quirky present for only €69.99. You could also try to bring him kicking and screaming into the 21st century with a Cassette Tape to MP3 Converter (also €69.99).
Would your Dad be a Foodie? Does he fancy himself as the next Gordon Ramsey? Ballyknocken Cookery School in Wicklow are offering Southern Italian Cookery Classes for €110 including a half day course with a light lunch or supper. Although, seeing as Summer is in full swing, maybe it would be better to send him on a full day BBQ Cooking Course with Linda Booth, director of the Dublin Cookery School (€195.00).
Or is he more of a Connoisseur? Fine wines, vintage cheeses and gourmet hampers more his style? For €64.74 there’s this gorgeous Wine and Cheese Selection, presented in a nice box. It includes a Bottle of Terroir and Vignobles Syrah, Irish Farmhouse Cheese by Carrigaline, Cream Cheese with Herbs by Boilie, Smoked Irish Oatcakes by Dittys and a Bottle of Terroir and Vignobles Chardonnay. If you take it up a notch to €89.00 you could get him a fabulous Gourmet Hamper, with wine, cheese, chocolates, brandy butter, strawberry and champagne preserve and much more. Om nom nom!
But my personal favourite (which says more about me than anything else) is the Personalised Champagne. This delicious (yes, I’ve tasted it) Bernard Remy Champagne comes with a personalised message of your choosing. I love to have something that lasts long after the big day has come and gone and that’s not always possible when buying someone drinks as a gift. With this, you can keep the bottle as a nice memento. For €54.99 it comes with the personalised message and a nice box of Butlers’ Chocolates.
All these gifts and a lot more are available all year round from GiftsDirect.com. They’re a really great bunch of guys, so I’d happily recommend you check out what they have to offer.
wants the helicopter!
