Mark Lanegan, him of Screaming Trees, Queens Of The Stone Age, Gutter Twins, Soulsavers, UNKLE and … well, “Mark Lanegan” fame, will grace us once again with his gravelly presence in August. Seeing as his last Irish show sold out in the time it takes to name all of his musical projects (the hardworking, livin’-the-dark-dream hero), this is a big deal.
Mark has one of those voices that sounds like his soul’s been coated in grit and whiskey, like he was dug out of the American soil with a rusted shovel. He makes me feel better about being alive, whilst simultaneously feeling like I need to get mean drunk and drive a pick-up into a tree… Jesus. I don’t know where that came from. Possibly my migraine-addled brain. I’m not myself at the moment - exactly the state of mind that suits listening to an artist as prolific, as deep, as evocative as Mark Lanegan. He is important, really important.
Here’s the lovely video for Soulsavers’ Revival.
Mark plays The Academy in Dublin on August 25th; tickets are priced at €24 including booking fee and are on sale now. He also plays the The Roisin Dubh, in Galway, on August 24th. Further info can be grabbed from his Myspace page.
