GIGS

The Milk Festival 2010 is on Saturday 14 August in Ballinlough Castle, Co. Meath. Darren already covered the full line-up.

TICKETING

There is a fundraiser for Temple Street Hospital on Saturday 28 August in McGrattan’s, 76 Fitzwilliam Lane, Off Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2. Depressingly its a 90s theme disco. I didn’t think the 90s were retro already.

Finally making it to Ireland after a sell out UK tour and the release of their third album,Winter of Mixed Drinks, Frightened Rabbit have announced details of a headline show in the Academy, Dublin on Thursday 9th December. Tickets went on sale this Thursday, 5th August.

Boyce Avenue is a Florida-based band with strong acoustic roots and melodic rock sound. The band is also a set of brothers (no no “how we met story”) namely Alejandro, Fabian, and Daniel Manzano. The band came together in 2004 with Alejandro on lead vocals, guitar and piano, Fabian doing guitar and vocals, and their older brother Daniel on bass, percussion and of course vocals. And in the keeping the relations happy camp, after graduating from Harvard Law School, Daniel moved back to Florida, to join his brothers, who were both attending classes at the University of Florida. Then the band started.
They have played for YouTube a lot, go look for them and decide. They return to Dublin’s Academy for an All Ages show (Over 14s show) on Tuesday 23rd November. Tickets went on sale Friday August 6.

Darwin Deez self titled début album was a Top 5 hit in the UK indie charts on its release earlier this year. Their Red Bull Music Academy performance at this years Oxegen festival was one of the (lets face it, many) highlights of the weekend. Darwin Deez plays live at the Academy 2 on November 9th. Tickets went on sale on Friday.

Diana Vickers plays her first headline Dublin show at the Academy on Monday 15 November. Tickets are on sale this Friday 6 August.
By the age of 18, Diana Vickers had recorded her first album and enjoyed a four month spell in London’s West End in a sold out revival of Little Voice. She is one of the pack of 2008’s X Factor hopefuls. In March 2009 she landed a deal with RCA Records. ‘Me and You’ sounds closer to a vintage pop set than a standard X Factor release, crackles still on the needle. The lead single is Cathy Dennis and Eg White’s ‘Once.’ This is an Over 14s show. No alcohol will be served.

Leaving Certificate results day. For some its a day of terror, and not just those getting the results. So, how about a leaving cert festival? (And why hasn’t anyone thought of this before). The first Leaving CertCelebrations is the Summer Blowout 2010 Festival on Wednesday 18 August. About 10,000 leaving certers as will be in Donnybrook Stadium, Dublin for a day MC’d by Lottie Ryan from 4pm to 11pm. The line up includes the Indie band, Skully & Carl from Razorlight playing an exclusive Razorlight DJ Set. Alexandra Burke ( presumably in an outfit, that will make it a day to remember). Hip hop act NDUBZ fly in from London and from Italy comes Alex Gaudino. Katie and Thomas from the Bafta winning Skins will be lending their DJ talents to the night and jetting in from, er, Malahide is Director. Lee Ryan (the ex Blue member) is doing his new tracks and in the midst of this is Eoin Glackin and the home grown Ruth Anne Cunningham, better know as a song writer rather than a performer. Also in the mix is the Battle of the Bands winners Fitzafrenic who fought off stiff competition to win the chance to play at this one day festival.
