Review: Ontroerend Goed’s The Smile Off Your Face

Rothe House, High Street, Kilkenny. Friday 6th August 2010, 8pm. I had read on the Kilkenny Arts Festival website about The Smile Off Your Face and had found it intriguing, particularly “You are blindfolded, you are in a wheelchair, tied up. There is no stage.” What could it be? What would happen to me inside the darkness of a blindfold where my imagination and senses of sound and smell were all I had at my disposal? If you are interested in music, there is an array of types to choose from at the Kilkenny Arts Festival. Matthew Nolan, a member of musical ensemble 3epkano and a lecturer in Dublin Business School is the curator of the Wired strand, an exploration into various musical genres. It is described on the website as being “like one of those old mix tapes you’d pass around from friend to friend” which is lovely. Here Matthew talks to Ken McGuire about his choices for 2010:

Films on the horizon

I went to see Inception last week and thought it was brilliant. Before the film, caught some new previews or trailers that looked very good. The Town Directed by Ben Affleck. Starring Ben Affleck, Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Pete Postlethwaite and Blake Lively. This is based on a Dennis Lehane book about Charlestown, Massachusetts .. bank robbers, the police, the town’s peoples and I think the code there that no one ever informs on the darker elements without the usual swift and lethal retribution. Tron: Legacy The website is very interesting, click on the image above. The cast includes original Tron actors Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner, and features Olivia Wilde as Quorra, Garrett Hedlunnd as Sam Flynn, Michael Sheen as Castor, and James Frain as Jarvis.
