New artists announced for Arthur’s Day

We wrote about the return of Arthur’s Day for 2010 back in June but since then there’s been a lot happening in preperation for it. Tickets went on sale last month and promptly sold out across the 7 studio venues and 28 pubs in Dublin, Cork and Galway. Fear not though! Culch has learned that extra tickets for the studio venues will be going on sale tomorrow morning (24th August) on ticketmaster.ie Studio tickets and the outdoor Galway music event will cost €10 and the 28 pub venues will cost €5 with proceeds benefiting the Arthur Guinness Fund. Along with announcing the additional tickets an additional 15 artists have been added to the lineup. They include: rock legends Manic Street Preachers, Irish fans favourite David Gray, Dublin singer-songwriter Cathy Davey and Oscar-winning actor turned musician Tim Robbins & The Rogues Gallery Band. The new additions to the line up also … There’s more

Review: Scott Pilgrim vs the World

Culch.ie’s Brogen and Anto got to head along to the Irish Premiere of Scott Pilgrim vs the World last Monday evening and this is their review. The film is released in Ireland next Wednesday, 25th. It’s probably a tribute to this film that I’m writing the review of a Sunday morning. There’s not many films that would be afforded that honour. You see I’m a geek and Scott Pilgrim vs the World is like manna from heaven to geeks. The six part graphic novel created by Bryan Lee O’Malley in 2004 has been an amazing success with the final book coming out just weeks before the films release. It’s within that universe that Edgar Wright has created Scott Pilgrim vs The World which is based on the second book of the same name. Scott, a twenty something dude from Toronto, who is “between jobs” meets Ramona Flowers and instantly becomes … There’s more

Hands on with Playstation Move

I went to this preview event with memories of the Kinect event fresh in my mind. Both were excellent events but as far as the event themselves go I’m going to give the Playstation event the edge as there was proper brochures and information to take away, more consoles and more games available to play. But then you didn’t open this page to read my thoughts on an event, you want to here about Playstation Move. I had a similar fear with this as Kinect but it was even stronger for Move, because it’s just looks so similar to the Wii. There is more to this new controller than just a Wii rip off though its also uses Sony’s own 7 year old EyeToy technology to differentiate it from the Wii. Erm Sony, why do you think not one of your competitors have copied the EyeToy? Just saying like.

Review – Janelle Monáe – The ArchAndroid

When it was announced that Janelle Monáe had been secured to play this year’s Electric Picnic, Irish tweeps whipped up such a churn of back-and-forth squeals and OMGs that I was surprised the Fail Whale himself didn’t turn up to the party. Janelle Monáe is big news. Young, ambitious, sharp and soulful, it’s not a stretch to wonder if she could be the most credible event in urban music this decade. But wondering is one thing; painting Monáe as the Saviour Of All Pop is quite another. Not that it doesn’t seem to be working for Monáe’s camp - we seem more than happy to have the hype slam around us in walls of strained awesomeness we’re not encouraged to peep around. Janelle Monáe is wonderful! Janelle Monáe is uber-talented. JANELLE MONÁE IS THE SECOND COMING! Which is why this review of debut, full-length album The ArchAndroid comes so late … There’s more
