I watched this video recently and it reminded me of why I thought Kinect, Natal as it was when I saw the original demo, is going to wipe the floor with both the Wii and Playstation Move. It’s largely down to an 11 year old boy named Milo, watch the video and you’ll see what I mean.
I’m not for a minute suggesting that this game will be the greatest game of all time, but more the technology behind it, will be pulled apart and used in other games to create NPC’s that are far more realistic and engaging than even the most advanced out there today.
Well, either that or Milo’s “cloud brain” will reach sentience and takeover the interwebs before manifesting himself into the real world ala “Automan” and making us all his eternal stone skipping, room cleaning slaves.
Roll on 10 November the Kinect launch date
Peter Molyneux does great demos; he is fantastic at building anticipation for a game. Time and again what he presents in his talks looks and sounds amazing, but anyone who follows the video game industry (clearly this blogger doesn’t have a clue) knows that he has over hyped what he is talking about far too many times to be trusted. The tech could be great or it could be terrible, but nothing Peter Molyneux says should ever be believed until it is properly reviewed.
Hi Sean, Thanks for the comment, you are of course correct Peter Molneux is very good at building anticipation and does great demo’s. He has been accused of over hyping some of his past projects that is true, but you can’t fault the guy for being overly confident when he has been responsible for such enormously successful titles as “Populous”, “Theme park”, the “Black and White” series and of course the “Fable” Series.
If memory serves these were all considered to be over hyped before they were released yet most are regarded as classics today.
Regardless of his history I stand my what I said in the post, the technology behind Milo will give more life to NPC’s in the future, regardless of the success of the Game. It really is only a matter of time imo
It might win this “motion sensor” war, but I think Kinect will fall on its ass. Xbox is not a huge “family” console. I’ve spoken to lots of Xbox gamers about Kinect, and it’s a joke!
I thought that Kinect would fail myself until I tried it, it really is good fun and it really goes work.
As for Xbox not being a family console (I don’t agree but) that may be the point, Kinect will make it a more attractive family package and I would not be surprised to see a Kinect+Xbox bundle available for Christmas (just guessing)
Hmmm still not convinced at all on the technology behind Milo. I just didnt see anything here that would lead me to believe this is any more interactive than anything else out there at the moment. Even when that lad is talking to Milo he doesn’t seem to be reacting specifically to what is being said.
Have to agree that Peter Molyneux is well known for his hyping of games. I love his work with Lionhead Studios but none of the games (however good) lived up to his promises. Mind you I am playing fable 2 on the x box right now and I am hooked
