Kitty Cat’s Electric Picnic

Oh Electric Picnic. A guaranteed weekend of mischief and fun like no other. Now that I’m suitably recovered enough to string some manner of coherent sentence together - and mostly because the Bear had the clever idea (and presence of mind) to make a list in his phone of everything we’d seen as the weekend progressed - I can begin to recount the musical adventures that were had. Hoorah! Having missed Janelle Monae’s Main Stage show, we made sure to catch her performance in Body & Soul later on Friday night to see what all the fuss was about. Highly well deserved fuss it is too, it seems. Kicking off with three hooded figures walking onstage and swaying in unison, one of them eventually threw off their cloak to reveal that it was Janelle herself with a frankly gravity defying hairstyle and pointy-shouldered top, before bopping around the stage, seemingly … There’s more

Second Chance Friday!

UPDATE: If you’re still National-less at this time, I’m afraid you’ll be remaining so. All three Dublin shows have now sold out. I can no longer prevent your friends calling you a loser. Way to go, there, Speedy Gonzales. After delightful outings at Ireland’s biggest community Picnic/mudbath, it came as no surprise to anyone from my granny on down that The National and Imelda May’s Olympia shows sold out quicker than Avril Lavigne in an emo clothes emporium. But fear not! They’ve just announced extra dates! The National will now play another two shows on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th of December, and the bonny Ms. May will take over on December 15th and 16th. Isn’t that nice? No matter what your ticket-holding friends tweeted, you’re not a loser! Tickets are on sale now so go, go, go! Here’s our Imelda a’hollerin’ for your Friday afternoon amusement. Enjoy!

Will the Afterlife be worth the wait?

I loved Resident Evil (2002). The first film, I mean. It was claustrophobic, action packed, fast paced, with a good storyline and some great performances, particularly from Milla Jovovich. It was a haunted house set in a mansion, which just happened to have a colossal secret biological warfare laboratory beneath. Like Alien and Event Horizon before it, the tension is what made the film great. Then in 2004, along came Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse. I was so excited. One of my favourite action/sci-fi films was about to have a cool sequel. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement unparalleled since Edmund Hilary told his friend he was off for a hill walk. It was an awful pile of mess. The plot was … There’s more
