Something for the not that young artists section, Donovan is playing the Olympia on 4th October. From 1966 through 1969, Donovan scored a string of eleven Top 40 hits in a row, including Mellow Yellow and Sunshine Superman. Of interest to Beatles fans, the one of the few artists to collaborate on songs, contributing lyrics and vocals to the song Yellow Submarine. So that earworm is partially his fault.
“The Nameless” is Cathy Davey’s third album and she is promoting it with an Irish wide tour. First signed by Parlophone’s Regal Recordings after a batch of home-recorded demos caused a bit of a stir, and played her first live date shortly thereafter. With time, as Cathy managed to wriggle out of the indie-rock role that Parlophone had given her. The Nameless has more of Cathy’s personality in it than any of her previous work. There’s a darkness here that is more prominent than before, but it’s coupled with songs as fine as anything she’s ever written. Lead single Little Red is the kind of song that could be adopted as a new national anthem. She’s brought back members of her band too: Conor J. O’Brien has returned to play some guitar and some drums, taking a break from recording his début album as Villagers (but no word yet if he’s on tour with her). The line up is:
Monday 4 October, Town Hall, Galway
Wednesday 6 October, The Academy, Dublin
Thursday 7 October Royal, Castlebar
Friday 8 October INEC Killarney
Saturday 9 October Set, Kilkenny

The Riptide Movement (also known as TRM) are a four piece rock band who formed in 2006, all hailing from the Capital (presumably Dublin). They play Tuesday 5 October University Limerick and Friday 8 October Iveagh House Dublin.

Baltimore pop punk band All Time Low return to Ireland on Tuesday 1 March for a special headline show at the Olympia Theatre. Please Note: Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. The last time the band hit Irish shores was to headline the sold out Kerrang Tour at the Academy in January. All Time Low’s released the follow-up to their highly-acclaimed début, “So Wrong, It’s Right” last year. The band stretched their songwriting muscles on the album, working with a variety of producers including Butch Walker, David Bendeth, Matt Squire, S*A*M & Sluggo, and more. Their sophomore album “Nothing Personal” is the result of that work. Last December the band recorded their concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City which was subsequently released as their first CD/DVD package entitled Straight To DVD. All Time Low started recording their latest studio album in March of this year with producers John Fields and Matt Squire. The as of yet untitled album is due for release early 2011. All Time Low are Alex Gaskarth, Jack Barakat, Zack Merrick and Rian Dawson.
Carl Barât (The Libertines, Dirty Pretty Things) gives a live airing of his debut solo album at Dublin’s Academy 2 on Monday 15 November. Carl Barât releases his eponymous debut solo album this October via his own imprint Arcady Record. The first single ‘Run With The Boys’ will be out the same day and he has written his first book ‘Threepenny Memoir’ published by Harper Collins on 30th September. He will also be setting out on a UK and European tour with a five piece band. Having released two albums with The Libertines and then a further two with Dirty Pretty Things, Carl was very keen to do his own record and do things his own way. Recorded in London and mixed in New York, the result is a departure from Carl’s previous releases, but maintains his ear for melody. The album allowed him to work with new people and try new musical ideas.

The song the Nameless is stunning live, saw Cathy Davey a couple of months ago, when she was first promoting this, she’s fantastic live, a multi-instrumentalist is always impressive!
