Be My Love in the Rain - Charity Performances

You could do worse this weekend than treat yourself to the brilliant Be My Love in the Rain. I saw this one woman show earlier this year and really loved it. Written by Paul Kennedy and performed by the terrific Linda Teehan, it is an exciting new Irish play set in contemporary Dublin that explores issues around love, loss and mental illness. Fire & Ice Theatre Company are proud to present two benefit performances of Be My Love in the Rain with all proceeds going to the cancer ward at St. Luke’s. The two performance evenings will take place at 8pm on the 22nd and 23rd of October in the United Arts Club, 3 Upper Fitzwilliam St., Dublin 2. There will be no cover charge but guests will have the option of donating whatever amount they wish to the cause. It’s a girl’s night out Janet and her friends are … There’s more

What do you think of the trailer for Scream 4?

Well, I have no idea what I was expecting, but I was definitely expecting something better than this. Maybe I was being naive, but it’s from Wes Craven!!! I thought he could do it again - revive a stagnating genre. He was the Prince of Horror in the 70s, the King of Horror in the 90s, but if this trailer is anything to go by, the king has gone the way of George III - he’s lost the plot. Update: The Weinsteins have removed the trailer from YouTube, but pop over to the Den of Geek and you can still see it there. Thoughts?

Interview and (oh yea) a FREE album: Bill Coleman

Late last week we ran a competition to give away CDs of Bill Coleman’s excellent new album ‘You Can’t Buy Back Your Life’ with unique, hand made artwork (and congrats to our lucky winners!). But what we omitted to properly plug was the fact that Coleman is giving away the digital download of the album for free on his website. Yes, that’s FREE kids. And it’s an 11 track album. And it’s damn good stuff. Actually if you’re a lazy sort, you don’t even have to go to his website. You can just enter your email address into the handy little widget box thing-a-me-jig below and you’ll get sent a download link instantly. Nice. To make up for our (okay my) incompetence here’s a lovely interview with the man hisself. He’s a nice chap isn’t he? Culch: So, Bill, how is the promotion for the new album going? Has there … There’s more

Competition CLOSED: Oliver Cole at The Workman’s Club

What are you up to this Saturday night? Nothing? Christ, we can’t have that, which is why Culch.ie would like to send you, and a friend of your choosing - you don’t have to bring Darren this time round - to see the lovely Oliver Cole in the Workman’s Club on Wellington Quay (that’s in Dublin, culchie Culchies!). Onetime Turn frontman Oliver has come up with some lovely Beatlesy/Elliottsy/Kinksy melodies for solo album We Albatri, like What Will You Do?, embedded most handily below. We can’t guarantee either cuddly golden retriever will be at the gig, but sure you’d never know. Just drop us a comment to be in with a chance of nabbing the tickets. Winner will be chosen at random sometime Thursday morning. I’m airy-fairy in my timekeeping.

Culch.ie is going to the Culchie Festival

Firstly, do you have any idea how hard it is for me to write the word Culchie without putting the dot in there? Anyway, that’s my problem, not yours. This weekend is the annual Culchie Festival, now in its 21th year. Yes, I did type 21th. Their website may be full of typos and look like it was designed by a farmer, but that’s irrelevant - it’s going to be a weekend full of craic and mayhem. Taking place in Mohill, Co Leitrim, from October 22nd-24th the first search for Super Gran begins, along with events such as the Culchie Fashion Show and the annual Honda Step-Thru Run. Think Father Ted only non-fiction. Culch.ie will be heading down over the weekend and, though Sinead would like me to try out for the King of the Culchies Competition, I’ll just be spectating. I may also have a drink or two before … There’s more
