85 tickets went on sale for Other Voices on Monday. Yes, 85 tickets (well, 85 for each day of the 4 day event). I didn’t get one, though I was poised at my keyboard at 9am as though it was the starting line for the Olympics 100m sprint. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. To know that The National will be performing in a church in Dingle with less than 100 people in the audience and I won’t be there is… well it sucks ass. Other festival performers (Saturday 4th - Tuesday 7th December) are Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), Richard Hawley, Marina and The Diamonds, Laura Marling, Smoke Fairies, Cathy Davey, And So I Watch You From Afar, Ellie Goulding, Everything Everything, Anna Calvi, James Vincent McMorrow, John Smith, Ryan Sheridan, The Minutes and O Emperor.
But there is still reason to go to Dingle for the weekend. Apart from the fact that it’s Dingle and has some of the best pubs and restaurants in the country, the atmosphere in the town will be amazing during the festival. And there’s always the chance you might bump into Jarvis Cocker at the urinals in Dick Macs pub. More than than, however, is that this year the concerts themselves are going to be opened up to a wider audience so you don’t actually have to have tickets into St James Church. They are being streamed live in high definition around the town. Courtesy of some high tech jiggery pokery by Irish technology firm InTune Networks anyone with a wireless device in the area will be able to pick it up. But if you prefer a pint in hand and a communal experience there will be big screens in 7 venues: Benners Hotel; Foxy John’s; McCarthy’s; Currans; Adams; Geaney’s and; Ashes Bar and Restaurant.
The organisers still haven’t announced the running order or even what days the performers will be on, but a press release on this is imminent (we’ll update this post when we know more). Or just join the Other Voices facebook page and they’ll keep you informed direct.
