Day five so it’s number 21 on the list…
George Clooney stars as Jack, an assassin who is constantly on moving from job to job and always alone. Seeking a more normal life and retirement from his profession he is given one last job, in the tranquil Italian countryside. Getting a taste for the peaceful life he makes friends with a local priest and a pursues a more intimate relationship with a beautiful young woman. Things are looking up for the American but isn’t that always when things start to go wrong?
Verdict: The second Clooney movie on the list is another classic example of just how fine an actor he really is. He is a captivating presence even when doing nothing at all. This coupled with Anton Corbijn’s stunning visuals make The American an art-house film for the masses. It was a brave move, but it pays off in spades.
