Oh look, it’s Spider-man

Spider-man

I rewatched a lot of Doctor Who over Christmas and was surprised to see one Andrew Garlfield pop up in a Dalek-centric episode, long before he played a brilliant Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network and certainly long before he was cast as the new Spider-man. I was never a fan of Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker (that painfully cringeworthy strut in Spider-man 3 still gives me nightmares), so I’m certainly dubious about another incarnation of the character. Here’s the first shot of Garfield in the role. What do you think?

  1. I was never too gone on Maguire either. He just never seemed reall very “Peter Parker” to me. However this reboot is starting to look a lot better than I had hoped for….Garfield actually looks like Parker, and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy is just brilliant! And you can see from the pic he has web-shooters in this one. Although I am curious as to the changes in the costume :P

When I heard that they were doing a reboot I thought it was a terrible idea. I’m afraid it’s going to be Spiderman for the Twilight generation, just two hours of teen melodrama in lycra. Marc Webb as director hasn’t dispelled that fear either, 500 Days of Summer is a great film but I fear he was given the job because he has shown that he can handle the romance aspects. Andrew Garfield is a good actor but does the idea of a handsome young English actor is the lead role sound familar? The movie industry is struggling and the major studios are looking for a new franchise to fill the void that the end of the Twilight saga will leave. Even this photo has a bit an Edward Cullen vibe to it. Maybe I’m just being paranoid but I am genuinely afraid of what they are going to do to one of the great superheros. Then again it doesn’t really matter because it will make hundreds of millions of dollars and I’ll happily keep reading the comic books.

John - don’t say that. The teenagers would never go mad for an action film *hopes*. Eitherways, i’ll still count down the days before this comes out. Spidey 3 was shite but 1 & 2 were great & this has the look of being great too.
