How About A Durty Weekend in Cork?

… because that’s where I live. I know you’d like that. I see the way you’re looking at me.

The lovely bhoys and gurls at The Pavilion in Cork have organised, for your aural pleasure, a Dirty Weekender. Now, I’m fond of complaining that there’s nothing to do in Cork, but that’s because I live there and as a typical Irish whingebag, it’s my duty to diss it whenever I can. The truth is that there’s always something going on in Cork, something odd or beetling or tricksy or bold that’s worth digging into. I would like to dig into the Weekender.

I’ll leave it to the Paviolies to explain the game.

Rather than give you the usual press release, intraweb media muck, we decided to let y’all know how we roll southside. Cork style. Dirty Weekender wasn’t born in some genius inspired moment of clarity nor seedy strip joint up the northside full of ol’ dolls from out foreign. It came about by chance. Jamie from Bastardo Electrico met us old school like, face to face and told us he had Ben Klock booked on the friday. Mighty! Some techno dude from Berghain in Berlin. The potato gods then sent us good karma and the Mr Scruff booking that we were chasing for a while came to fruition on the Sunday. Deadly buzz. Still the penny hadn’t dropped that little by little organically, embryonically a bit of a weekender was coming together. The people behind the people behind international panda expert David o Doherty had been talking to us… Be the hokie. Another keyboard toting gun slinger joins this motley crew. A few days later harmonic from the capital asked did we have a slot on the saturday for hyperdub’s Darkstar. We did. Now we felt proper Dirty..So as the acts came together it was looking like a bit of a weekender. And so it came to be. All we needed was a name.

And lo, there came about/will come about the Dirty Weekender at the Pavilion, Carey’s Lane, in Cork, on Feb 10/11/12/13.

Check out The Pavilion’s Facebook page to win a very sweet 3 nights’ accomodation for two lucky people, with weekender tickets and your din-dins - a dirty weekend sorted nicely. But what’s the line-up like? you holler. Could this dirty weekend feature nothing more erotic than a JLS tribute band and a signing session with ample sofa salesperson Amanda Brunker? Well, no. Cork-style dirt is all about subversive stories, filthy beats, and crude laughter. Take a peek …

About Lisa McInerney

That cranky young wan from award-winning blog, Arse End Of Ireland, Lisa’s also noted for her dedication to cobbling together unrelated imprecations to make new and bemusing insults, mostly because she’s not eloquent enough to otherwise explain her deep-seated terror of genre fiction and Fianna Fail. In 2006, The Irish Times called her “… the most talented writer at work in Ireland today”, and her mam still can’t understand why this is better than being the new Marian Keyes. Which it totally is.
