There is nothing more refreshing than coming across a band who can manage to be eclectic within the one album. Cfit can go from mellow to menacing and back again, tip-toeing the line between messy and skilful. The seven piece band formed originally as a two-piece and have come a long way since then. Their Debut album, Triage, which was released in April, sticks to an “alternative” or “indie” style of music while incorporating elements of electro and minimalism, here or there.
One of the stand-out tracks of Triage is, incidentally, the first song on the album. Great Pressure heralds some ingredients from the works of Manchester alt band Elbow. It was no coincidence that this track comes first as the racing drum beat and echoed vocals immediately spell out good things about this band. Another notable feature on the album is the short but seductive Throw the babies to the wolves. Lead vocalist Noel Duplaa is simply showing off his effortlessly soothing voice in this song. Coupled with the delicate piano tracing around his vocals, they make the song graceful and compelling in similar ways to a child’s lullaby.
Overall, Cfit are on to something with their minimal-come-alt soundings, this album is proof that there is strength in numbers. This seven member band has got the potential to go on to greater things with a soothing and interesting album like this.
