Culch.ie Says:
There seems to be a format to the more successful podcasts that are out there, the most of which seem to hail from the USA. All seem to follow a sort of [for want of a better description] Westlife/ Jeffrey Archer format to another successful song/ novel in the sense that that this also has a sort of Freakonomics type of set up to it. But. Whilst I say that, content is king and the content to every one of the Stuff You Missed In History Class podcasts, without any notion of a flicker, is so extremely well researched, edited and scripted it is admirable and deserves nothing but standing applause. The alternate, for example is the BBC History Podcast which in the context of ‘how great was that’ ? Noted on a sheet of graph paper ? Would look like a little like soundwave. ie. It’s subject quality and output method varies - a lot.
SYMIHC takes a subject like The Radium Girls and makes personal, to them. It discusses the laws [and so much more] at the time, it takes you there to that place, that era…. It makes what could be such a stubborn boring topic and makes it
one of intrigue. The second, by way of compliment, reason I compare it to Freakonomics. The only downside to SYMIHC ? Their website/ blog. The adverts annoy me slightly and I find it hard to find podcasts of old. www aside - I cannot rate it highly enough. Love it. This was also recommended to me by Naomi who I am thanking for the second time.
Recommended Episode: The Radium Girls - couldn’t find it on the website. Easier to find it in iTunes
