California, 1948. The City of Fallen Angels is a hotbed of murder, mystery and music. A place where nothing is sacred and everything is suspect. Where justice is for sale and corruption is a way of life.
Meet Winifred, a small-town gal looking to make it big; Fats, a brutal mobster with an eye for the ladies; and Billy, a young mechanic convinced of true love. When these three lives unexpectedly collide, passions are awakened and loyalties divided. Truth is only what you are made to believe. But who is the victim and who is the villain in this dark tale of deception, denial and death?
So goes the teasing scene-setter in Neon Fringe’s press release for their co-production with Winedark Productions which kicks off tonight. Featuring classic hits such as Blue Moon and I’m in the Mood for Love, the show is set to transport you back to the cabaret clubs of 1940s America where, they say, ‘the only thing more dangerous than a bullet is a dame’.
LA Blues - A Musical Noir is in The Cobalt Café on North Great Georges Street for four performances only, kicking off tonight, December 7th, at 8pm and running until Saturday. Tickets are €20 and if you find yourself wanting to know even more then the Director of the show, Chris Lynch, has been keeping a blog of how it all came together: http://labluesmusicalnoir.blogspot.com/ - we especially like how one of the post titles contains the word ‘wanky’. Theatre people who don’t take it too seriously are our favourite kind.
In short - we like the sound of this. Music, intrigue and 40s glamour. Hot damn and hell yes!
