The inaugural Irish Song of the Year Category for this year’s Meteor Choice Music Prize was launched in style last Thursday night with acoustic performances from four of the nominees - The Kanyu Tree, This Club, Cashier No. 9 and Lisa Hannigan - in the cosy surrounds of the upstairs bar in Doheny & Nesbitt on Baggot Street.
10 songs in all have been shortlisted and are listed after the jump:
Bell X1 - Velcro
Cashier No 9 - Goldstar
The Coronas - Addicted to Progress
Lisa Hannigan - Knots
The Kanyu Tree - Radio
Little Green Cars - The John Wayne
Royseven - We Should be Lovers
Maverick Sabre - Let Me Go
Snow Patrol - Called Out In the Dark
This Club - I Won’t Worry
Unlike the overall Choice Prize which is awarded by a panel of judges, Irish Song of the Year will be decided on by public vote. You can do so on Meteor’s Facebook page or by texting SONG to 085 711 4444. Voters can enter a vote up to once per day until voting closes on March 4th, and will be in with a chance of winning tickets to the Choice Music Prize event on March 8th in the Olympia. Meanwhile, the winning song will bag a trophy and prize fund.
Team Culch fancy the chances of Lisa ‘Knots’ Hannigan:
Cashier are also in with a shout and if you ask us both of them will come away with prizes on the night.
