Gigs: Storyfold @ Whelan’s March 23rd

Storyfold, who released their debut album ‘Rocket Science’ last year, are wetting the head of their 4th single release, ‘The Sweetest Silence’ with a headliner in Whelan’s on March 23rd. Frontman Paddy McKenna gives over lead vocals to pianist Lindsey Hogan for ‘…Silence’ and it’s well worth hearing: Support comes from Jet Set Radio and Laura Elizabeth Hughes (the first public gig of the YouTube sensation whose ‘Video Games’ cover is below and deserves a watch). I Heart Tea Crowd Episode 9 - Dead Cat Bounce

Comedy rockers Dead Cat Bounce have been on the scene since 2008, touring the circuit and regaling audiences with tales of ‘Overenthusiastic Contraceptive Lady’ and ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’. A full band, with vocalist Jim Whalmsey, drummer Demian Fox and guitarist Shane O’Brien, the first few seconds of any of their shows will lull you into a false sense of musical security before they launch straight into lyrics such as ‘like a chimpanzee in a buffet car they’re grabbing at things before they know what they are … and trying to put them in their mouths’ (‘Christians in Love’) and ‘Me and my instructor tearing down the autobahn, doing ninety in a Mazda with the handbrake on’ (‘Switzerland’). New Music: The Jezabels

Aussie offering The Jezabels are a two-girl, two-boy setup (what we like to call a ‘two up, two down outfit’ here in Culch Towers… oh use your imagination). Featuring keyboardist Heather Shannon, drummer Nik Kaloper, guitarist Sam Lockwood and Hayley Mary full of pace, (owner the Florence-esque skyscraper vocals that completely sell them), the genre-spanning four-piece release their debut album ‘Prisoner’ here on March 2nd.
