Some Guinness and a little parade thing

'Everybody is Irish on March 17th' banner, Guinness Storehouse

St. Patrick’s Day dawned sunny and bright this year and miraculously kept up the brightness for the whole day! I made my way to the bus stop and after playing the buses a little with some inspiration from TheChrisD, I shunned the first sardine express and got me a nice seat on the next bus about three minutes later-yay!

Aside from the usual crowds, the flags, the greenery, the teenagers, there was also a great buzz about town. Thanks to Pix.ie, I had a pass for the viewing area on O’Connell Street, giving me enough access to get near the front and take some great up close pictures, like this:

You can see the rest of my pictures on my Pix.ie page.

Afterwards silly me headed towards St. Patrick’s Cathedral but forgot what I was doing and ended up meeting the end of the parade at least twice more and the crowds that started to disperse on Dame Street as it ended truly terrified me so I was out of there quicker than you could say ‘Snake!’

Eventually I found Mr. Doyle and we headed on foot to a pre-planned gathering of photographers at the Guinness Storehouse. The lovely people at Guinness had not only allowed us Pixie people free access to the Storehouse, some drinks vouchers, entertainment from some of the great bands from the parade, but they also provided us with some yummy finger food and a private suite to enjoy it all from – swit swoo!!

Guinness are also running a photo competition in conjunction with Pix.ie so if you fancy your chances, you can have a look at the details here. I took a few photos myself in the Storehouse, there’s something about the amalgamation of old and new and the brightly lit enormity of the space that is always inspiring. I don’t think I’ll be winning any prizes with my Sony Cybershot camera but it doesn’t stop me trying

Thanks Darren. ‘Poetry in a pint’ is inside a giant barrel, it’s amazing-I couldn’t even fit the whole sentence onto the camera screen!
