The Wife Carrying Begins - Days 1, 2 and 3

Day One of the Wife Carrying Team Marathon Trip to Finland involved leaving Cork on the Fastnet Line ferry to Swansea…great fun on board, with a wedding ceremony and all. Check out Ciara and James’ first day’s travelling: Days Two and Three brought them across Wales and the UK and managed to get a late train through the Eurotunnel into France, before heading into Bruges. Looks like a lot of fun:

Seán Ferrick’s Debate

I am very excited about seeing Debate, the award-winning play by Seán Ferrick, tonight. Born out of many of the questions facing the modern western world, it centers around the last courtroom and the last trial. God sits in defense, Satan acts as prosecutor. The outcome will determine who takes the reigns of power, and who fades into the ether. Four character witnesses give testimony. Through them, we see different themes addressed head-on. For example, if ‘Thou shalt not kill’ is a commandment, what is the fate of Soldiers who kill in war? How do hardline religious extremists affect religion as a whole? And, not least, can one act of fear destroy a person’s future, both before and after they die? A story in two acts, Debate won the award for Best Original Script of the year in UCD Dramsoc after its first run in 2009. It is a thought-provoking … There’s more

No Rain But Lots of Rainbows

Dublin will explode in colour this weekend and right through until next weekend as Dublin’s Pride Festival 2010 kicks off. The quays are already strewn with the rainbowed flags of the LGBTQ and with great weather promised, it should be a fun week. The George, the Queen of Irish Gay bars has polished of her tiara and brought out her crown jewels to celebrate Pride 2010! At the young age of 25, The George has been there through almost every Pride Festival in our fair city and has seen it all. This year, The George has been crowned the Official Festival Club For Pride 2010 and the Queen has laid on an extra special programme of events, including The Official Pride Launch Party tonight, Friday 18th June, hosted by Veda Beaux Reves and special guest KATRINA of the Waves (remember them?), who will ensure you will be ‘Walking on Sunshine’ … There’s more

Sponsored Post: Top Fathers’ Day Gifts

In a first experimental post, we were asked by GiftsDirect.com to have a look across their range and pick out our favourite Father’s Day Gifts. All of the content is my own, but each items I talk about is available from GiftsDirect.com. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Happy Father’s Day Socks, a funny card with some vague reference to Golf, a new jacket that he’ll never wear, a pint down the local? Are these the usual gifts you get your dad on Father’s Day? WHY? There’s so much more out there. Depending on what type of a man he is, there is so much to choose from. Here’s my top suggestions for Father’s Day gifts. For the Adventurous Dad, how about sending him on the Rally Driving Experience. Granted, maybe he’s already a maniac driver, maybe he already goes too fast and takes chances on rough terrain. But this … There’s more

Check out this behind the scenes interview with Rory as his every swing, putt and celebration is captured electronically to ensure his character in the game matches him perfectly. It’s a genuinely fascinating process. McIlroy spent the day at Celtic Manor for the session – the venue for this year’s highly-anticipated Ryder Cup in October, which will also appear in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11.
