Temper Trap play Dublin and Belfast

For those of us who couldn’t make Oxegen this year and are hoping to catch some of the bands throughout the year, Temper Trap have just announced two Irish dates October 30th in Ulster Hall, Belfast and October 31st in Tripod, Dublin. If you are still wondering who Temper Trap are, they were featured on the soundtrack of 500 days of Summer and the same single ‘Sweet Disposition’ is being used by O2 for their TV advert. Their album Conditions was released in 2009 with three lead singles, Sweet Disposition, Fader and Love Lost. These are a band to see live in a small venue and where better than Tripod. Tickets are on sale this Thursday at 9am from Ticketmaster. Check out my favourite track ‘Love Lost’:

Gerry Ryan, 1956-2010 RIP

Gerry Ryan, the eminent voice of morning Irish radio was found dead this morning in his apartment in Leeson Street, Dublin. Ryan leaves behind him a wife (although separated), five children and a nation in shock that one of the most distinctive voices in broadcasting will no longer be thumbing through the headlines, taking the calls of irate Dublin taxi drivers or discussing the issues of Ireland. Although a veteran of all forms of broadcasting, Ryan will mostly be remembered for his career in radio. Ryan started in the mid seventies on pirate radio before being drafted into 2FM at its conception. After moving around the schedules Ryan found his true home in 1988 when ‘The Gerry Ryan Show’ was born. Filling the morning slot between 9am and 12pm Ryan used his natural gift for talking with the general public to produce what is the longest running show on 2FM. … There’s more

Sound Advice: Meet Darwin and Steve

Name: Darwin Deez Genre: Indie Pop Album: Debut Self Titled Album ‘Darwin Deez’ If you like Two Door Cinema Club, Death Cab for Cutie or Lady Gaga… Yes, you read that correctly, this album is a mish mash of the very best influences around at the moment. Darwin Deez released his debut LP on April 12 and there’s plenty to know about this guy. Bringing the quirk to quirky, he has been known to choreograph synchronised dance routines to Beyonce and the Bangles which spring from no where in mid performance and lyrically he has rhymed ‘Los Angeles’ with ‘televangelist’. His songs are mostly stripped down and kept simple which is understandable since he made his album in his own apartment using only a PC and a mic. However, tracks like Radar Detector which is as sweet and fun as you are going to get and the track ‘Bad Day’ … There’s more

Sound Advice: BWW and Local Natives

This is the first of a regular new column from Pamela. Make her feel welcome here at Culch.ie. - Darren Name: Bitches with Wolves Genre: Pop Upcoming Gigs: 7.30pm 10th and 17th April, The Academy Dublin They describe their sound as ‘Sasha Fierce writhing on a glitterball disco in the midst of darkly delicious travels into the night’s ether.’ That is exactly what you will get. These guys will definitely bring you on an adventure as you listen to them. Main vocals are by the flamboyant James O’Neill, who is a true Irish popstar. This April is the start of BWWs headlining gigs, however being in the spotlight is not a new phenomenon for this trio as they supported Calvin Harris, Groove Armada and Fatboy Slim. When you listen to BWW expect to be mesmerized by the beats that will have you wanting to see them live. As for what … There’s more
