Aidan Killian is the thinking man’s comedian. He is the regular MC at Anseo on Camden which recently won an award for best comedy venue in Dublin. I recently described Aidan as a “very intelligent comedian whose observations on life’s problems are hilarious”. I sat down to have an intense chat with Aidan about Anseo and all things comedy related. What does it feel like to have won an award for best comedy venue on Dublin? It feels great. I love it. It’s just really cool that more people voted for us than for Enda Kenny. I already know what it is, it’s a small room with a great atmosphere and we get great acts. Four of the best Dublin comedians come together for a great cause tonight. Robert Coyle, Jim Elliot, Abie Philbin Bowman and Aidan Killian are putting their comedic abilities to good use in aid of the Free Leonard Peltier appeal. These are comedians you should definitely catch. Robert Coyle is one of the rising stars on the Irish comedy circuit and his boundless energy is infectious. Jim Elliot is a fantastic story teller who has a natural ability to draw people in. He is definitely not one to be missed Abie Philbin Bowman is a highly entertaining comedian whose tales are intricately woven and challenging. Comedy: Two To Watch Out For

On Wednesday night I headed in to Anseo for a laugh as you do at a comedy club. I have to say I really like Anseo as a comedy venue. It has a real intimate and friendly feel to it. As per usual Aidan Killian was on top form as MC for the night, but while I was there I saw two comedians who are definitely ones to watch out for. These were Robert Coyle and Alan Scarry. I had previously met Robert while reviewing Quinns in Drumcondra but had not seen him perform on stage that night. I was not entirely sure what to expect, but when he bounded on stage with such enthusiasm, I knew instantly that I was going to like him. Anseo is one of those venues that I had made plans to get to but had never quite managed to make it. Since I had got to know Aidan Killian he had been suggesting that I go, so when I came across the Stand up against the Bankers gig in aid of Occupy Dame Street which sparked the inner protestor in me, mash that together with comedy and of course you will find me there! How could I refuse? Anseo as a venue is brilliant. While sitting waiting for the gig to start, the one word that came to mind was “earthy”. This may have something to do with the colour scheme and the various odd illustrations… It has a raw edge feel to it unlike other venues I’ve been to. It seems less polished, but not in a bad way. Do you want to support Occupy Dame Street but are unsure how? Well Aidan Killian may have the answer for you. He has organised a charity gig with all proceeds going to the Occupy Dame Street people. This event is €8 in. If you cannot afford €8 donate whatever you can, all who show respect for the acts are welcome. There is an excellent line up on the night including Dean Scurry who is a resident of Occupy Dame Street as your MC for the evening, Jim Elliot who recently found his soul, Shane Browne known for his conspiracy theories, Enda Muldoon who is critically acclaimed as a “creative genius” and Aidan Killian will be your headliner. Quinn’s Craic House opens its doors on November 22nd for the first time. It’s about time the far side of the city got some comedy they reckoned. They have a sterling line up for their opening night too! On MC duties for the evening will be Aidan Killian who is a regular at Anseo and recently had a sell out show in New York of all places. Fintan Harvery and Andrew Gilmore are two of the country’s finest up-and-coming comedians, not to be missed! They have also managed to convince Simon O’Keeffe to appear on the bill… Simon is DEFINITELY not one to be missed. Headlining the night will be the one and only Edwin Salmon. Entry is only €5 and there will be drink promotions at the bar Go along, have a laugh and support live comedy. I’ll be there!
