I am working-class. I am hard-working. I enjoy heroics. This is the festival for me. Hard Working Class Heroes, the “annual showcase festival and conference for new Irish music”, has just announced details of its 2011 line-up, one hundred Irish bands who will play in Dublin city centre from the 6th to the 8th October. The quality is bloody impressive, but I’m going to go mental and blindly recommend you catch Bitches With Wolves, Moths, Grand Pocket Orchestra, Overhead, The Albatross, Owensie, Toby Kaar, Sleep Thieves, The Holy Roman Army, Bats, We Are Losers, Cfit and Culch favourites EleventyFour and The Dying Seconds. Mmm, eclectic. *drools* The festival venues are The Button Factory, The Mercantile, The Grand Social, Shebeen Chic, Twisted Pepper and The Workman’s Club, none of whom I can be arsed to link to. Oxegen Stage Preview: Red Bull Electric Ballroom

In the midst of all the new bells and whistles features of this year’s Oxegen, one thing in particular caught our eye. The Punchestown Exhibition Centre, that shed that’s usually know as the ‘Dance Stage’, has been re-incarnated as the Red Bull Electric Ballroom. The electronica operation transformation includes a massive skin on the outside to make it fall in line with the look of the bigtop tent structures of the other stages, and comes complete with grand entrance, chandeliers, hanging prints and giant portraits all reminiscent of the 1930s ballroom era. The new look alone, a very welcome step away from the sweatbox of old, probably makes it worth sticking your head in for a poke around, but in particular we recommend checking it out tomorrow. Flamboyant, boisterous, loud and beautiful - Bitches with Wolves are back. Their last gig was unfortunately postponed due to illness, but the bright side is they return to The Academy this Friday night from 7.30. Tickets for the cancelled show remain valid and if you haven’t got one yet, you can pick one up from Ticketmaster. Alternatively, leave a comment below telling us why you deserve to see this awesome band and you could win a pair of tickets to see James O’Neill shake his colourful ass around The Academy stage. O’Neill is a true Irish popstar and apart from the fact that he may have a thing for George Clooney (I have this on good authority), he’s damn cool.
