GIGS Champ is the second full length album from Toronto’s Tokyo Police Club. They first hit their stride back in 2006 when, straight out of high school, their hyperactive mini-album A Lesson in Crime came from nowhere to prove one of the year’s most refreshing releases. The surprise success of A Lesson in Crime led to relentless touring through the entirety of 2006/07, with appearances anywhere and everywhere, taking in festivals from Coachella to Glastonbury, two TV appearances Letterman and, bizarrely, an appearance on an episode of Desperate Housewives. They are gearing up again to play The Academy, Dublin on Friday 5 November. Following a one-off MTV show with Arcade Fire in Spain, The Temper Trap head across the Atlantic for headline shows in the US and a prestigious three-date support slot with The Pixies in Mexico, before returning to Australia to end a second whirlwind year on their homeland … There’s more

And A Jingly Jangly Darwin Deez To You Too, Paddy!

… aaaaand we’re over the hump of the week. Happy Wednesday afternoon, everyone! This week’s celebratory melody comes from Mr. Darwin Deez, and though he looks like a 70′s PE teacher mating with a hedge, I do hope you’re not alarmed. This is the fantastic Constellations, which is special because it’s getting an Irish release this coming Friday, ahead of Darwin’s November tour dates. He plays the Roisin Dubh in Galway on the 7th, Cyprus Avenue in Cork on the 8th, and The Academy in Dublin on the 9th. Pop goes my pop-o-meter, so it’s nicely primed for the bank holiday weekend. Thank you, Mr. “tap-dancing hipster troubadour” (Christ) Darwin Deez!

Sound Advice: Meet Darwin and Steve

Name: Darwin Deez Genre: Indie Pop Album: Debut Self Titled Album ‘Darwin Deez’ If you like Two Door Cinema Club, Death Cab for Cutie or Lady Gaga… Yes, you read that correctly, this album is a mish mash of the very best influences around at the moment. Darwin Deez released his debut LP on April 12 and there’s plenty to know about this guy. Bringing the quirk to quirky, he has been known to choreograph synchronised dance routines to Beyonce and the Bangles which spring from no where in mid performance and lyrically he has rhymed ‘Los Angeles’ with ‘televangelist’. His songs are mostly stripped down and kept simple which is understandable since he made his album in his own apartment using only a PC and a mic. However, tracks like Radar Detector which is as sweet and fun as you are going to get and the track ‘Bad Day’ … There’s more
