Music Video: Fred’s Somewhere Else

Cork favourites Fred sent us this… the animated video for Somewhere Else by Leo Kavanagh, an Irish-born animator based in Toronto. It might keep you going if you’re not lucky enough to be in Dingle this weekend for the recording of their Other Voices performances today and tomorrow but if it’s not quite enough for you then there’s more good news - they’ve been added to the bill for the New Year’s show at Vicar Street along with James Vincent McMorrow, Lisa Hannigan, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Jerry Fish among others. The Dingle Film Festival

While most across the country were wearing giant felt hats, pinning lumps of dying foliage to their lapels and waiting for barmen to draw wonky shamrocks in their pints, those cultured folks down in Dingle, County Kerry were celebrating yesterday’s St Patrick’s Day with a considerably more arty affair. The Dingle Film Festival kicked off last night and will run for the next 3 days and will see the small fishing village play host to a plethora of Hollywood royalty. Now into its fifth year the festival is getting a reputation as the ‘film makers film festival’ as it offers unparrallelled access to some of cinema’s hottest actors and directors. Other Voices come to Xbox Live

If you’re connected to XBox live, you might have spotted a familiar face hidden in the extensive GamesCon footage; that of Duke Special. XBox live are showing a series of the intimate “Other Voices” gigs filmed in Dingle’s St James Church. Yes, this is a shortened version of the gigs shown on RTÉ over the years, but this is something of a test. In November Microsoft XBox team expect to see a change in the types of people sitting down in from of their XBox once the Kinect arrives. Namely that of casual gamers. Namely that of people who like music. Namely that of people who would rather dance then first person shoot.
