GIGS The Workman’s Club, at 10 Wellington Quay, Dublin 2, welcomes Damien Dempsey, for a one off intimate club date on Wednesday 15 September to open the club. Support on the night will be from Eoin Glackin. Tickets Dundalk based Blind Pilots formed as a quartet of sixteen year old schoolboys with aspirations of making atmospheric indie-pop with a nostalgic tinge. Now they are 21 as comparatively auld fellas at the age of 21. They released their AA single (that’s Double A I think) in The Spirit Store, Dundalk, Co. Louth, on Saturday 28 August. TICKETS Thin Lizzy is touring again. OK, obviously this is Thin Lizzy without its former very famous front man Phil Lynott. The new line-up is Scott Gorham (Guitar - Thin Lizzy), Brian Downey (Drums - Thin Lizzy), Darren Wharton (keyboards - Thin Lizzy), Vivian Campbell (Guitar - Def Leppard), Marco Mendoza (Bass Guitar - Whitesnake, Ted Nugent) and Ricky Warwick (Lead vocals/Guitar), and they are playing The Waterfront on 16 February and Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on 17 February 2011. Tickets for both concerts go on sale next Friday 27 August 2010 at 9AM from usual Ticketmaster outlets nationwide or directly from the venue box offices. GIGS Leaving Certificate results day. For some its a day of terror, and not just those getting the results. So, how about a leaving cert festival? (And why hasn’t anyone thought of this before). The first Leaving Cert Celebrations is the Summer Blowout 2010 Festival on Wednesday 18 August. About 10,000 leaving certers as will be in Donnybrook Stadium, Dublin for a day MC’d by Lottie Ryan from 4pm to 11pm. The line up includes the Indie band, Skully & Carl from Razorlight playing an exclusive Razorlight DJ Set. Alexandra Burke ( presumably in an outfit, that will make it a day to remember). Hip hop act NDUBZ fly in from London and from Italy comes Alex Gaudino. GIGS The Milk Festival 2010 is on Saturday 14 August in Ballinlough Castle, Co. Meath. Darren already covered the full line-up. TICKETING There is a fundraiser for Temple Street Hospital on Saturday 28 August in McGrattan’s, 76 Fitzwilliam Lane, Off Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2. Depressingly its a 90s theme disco. I didn’t think the 90s were retro already. Finally making it to Ireland after a sell out UK tour and the release of their third album,Winter of Mixed Drinks, Frightened Rabbit have announced details of a headline show in the Academy, Dublin on Thursday 9th December. Tickets went on sale this Thursday, 5th August. Boyce Avenue is a Florida-based band with strong acoustic roots and melodic rock sound.
