Culch.ie’s 5 Favourite Irish albums of 2010

It has to be said, this past year was a good one for Irish music, but there were some clear stand out albums. In the spirit of wringing every last bit of value out of a collective piece of writing, here is (in no particular order) the round-up of Culch.ie’s music writers favourite home-grown albums of 2010. Villagers - Becoming a Jackal The debut album for Conor O’Brien’s Villagers was universally praised on its release mid-year and Culch has taken it to its heart too. Fight Like Apes - Something Global

Remember we posted about #shootlikeapes - where lots of Fight Like Apes fans went to Whelan’s to shoot the video for their new single, Something Global? Director, editor, maestro Eoghan Kidney has just released the final edit: You can watch the bigger version over here. Considering the amount of cameras, footage and formats that were shot in on the day, this is an extremely impressive piece of work. The cut between the phones and the cameras, the angles and the directions is so tight as to appear like that’s the way it was set up altogether. And sure, perhaps it was. Well done everyone - something to be very proud of!

Fight Like Apes, Shoot Like Apes

So, remember I stuck this post up about the new video being shot for ‘Something Global’ the new Fight Like Apes single? I’m now in Whelan’s, listening to the band perform a six song set for the audience before we start shooting. Not sure how good the video quality is but here’s a video of dress rehearsal for Something Global. Probably the first video of the day to be uploaded!

Fancing filming the new Fight Like Apes video?

This just came into my inbox and I thought of you - you can’t say we don’t give you the cool stuff… Fight Like Apes will be shooting their new video in Dublin on Sunday 19 April; and they are inviting their fans to bring along video cameras and camera phones to participate in a once in a lifetime 100 camera shoot. The video, which is being directed by Eoghan Kidney, will be filmed at Whelan’s at 11am on Sunday 19 April. Budding lens-folk are asked to visit www.fightlikeapesmusic.com to sign up. The band will be playing a short set to warm up the crowd, and there will be free signed CDs and posters for all participants who contribute footage.
