Top 5 television programmes of 2009

This is my top 5 list. A little unorthodox perhaps but it’s what works for me. Let me know what you think of these 5 and what your own top 5 would be. In no particular order: Lark Rise to CandlefordLark Rise to Candleford is a quality period drama series in its second year in 2009. A third series is due to start on 10 January. Anything set in the past is always a winner for me, and with great stories and great characters, what more do you want. Gossip GirlYou can have your Wires, Sopranos and your Madmens; Gossip Girl is the one for me. It may be teen drama but it’s the very best teen drama. I haven’t tired of it a bit in the last three seasons, which is more than I can say for anything else coming from the US.

Fantasy Teen US Drama

If you had to pick your own fantasy cast of a teen US drama, who would make the short list? Here’s what I’d go for: The hot, rich and troubled leading lady Serena van der Woodsen. Unlike your average melodramatic teen heroine, Serena most of the time ends up in trouble while trying to do good so she’s not as annoying as the standard drama queen rich girl. Robert Pattinson Eat Your Heart Out…

…Chuck Bass is back in town. The third and latest series of Gossip Girl began a few weeks back on ITV2 on Wednesdays at 8pm and follows the boozing teenage socialites into the college dorm rooms. After a superb first season but a disappointing second I had high, if cautious hopes for the new episodes. So far I am eight episodes in (I have ways & means) and series three is still finding its feet story wise. The fashion remains on top form and Mr. Bass is glorious as always. Series 1 & 2 DVD box sets are available to buy and would make a lovely Christmas present for someone near and dear *ahem…me…ahem***. Coming soon, my first thoughts on the new hit (remains to be seen) US TV show Eastwick.

Holy Schmoly Gossip Girls. Gossip Girl co-stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester cover a new issue of Rolling Stone magazine while seductively sharing an ice cream cone together. Justin Timberlake really is a man for all seasons. Sigh! He successfully transitioned from a questionably styled boy bander to a musically respected pop star. He has opened up two restaurants in Manhattan, Southern Hospitality and Destino, that have both managed to do well. Ha has a hugely successful clothing line, William Rast. So what next I hear you ask? Tequila of course. Yip, the man who brought sexy back has come up with his own brand named 901. The reason behind the numeric name? “901 is that time of night when your evening is ending, but your night is just beginning. It is also a subtle nod to his hometown,” says the singer’s spokesperson, referring to the area code for Memphis, … There’s more
