Kimberly-The River Valley Band

I first came across The River Valley Band in Whelans during the summer when they supported the energetic and ever lovely Nell Bryden. They had a great sound, the crowd were moving and swaying to the music and they seemed to go down really well. The band are made up of five Kilkenny lads, Danny Coady (vocals, mandolin, rhythm guitar), Eoghan Leadbetter (piano and rhythm guitar), Conor Brett (lead guitar, vocals), Liam Teehan (bass guitar) and David Thompson (drums and vocals). The guys have a really retro feel about their music and their look and indeed even their website has a ‘Ye Olde Homepage’ rather than your plain old ‘homepage’- have a look here.

Dublin Flea Market

For several months I have looked at the notifications on Facebook for the next Dublin Flea Market and said to myself, YES I should go to this! There was something funky and interesting about it from what I had read on their blog. It being on just once a month though made it difficult and I only made it yesterday to the June market for the first time ever. I was barely in the door when I heard a powerful voice belting out a song round the corner and thought ‘I know that voice’ and off I headed, pushing through the crowds to discover the beautiful Nell Bryden singing at the top of her voice in the heat and humidity and buzz of the market. Nell Bryden sings Second Time Around for Culch.ie You know the way you meet someone and just know you’ll like them? That was my experience with Nell Bryden. She followed me on twitter, I checked her profile, invited her for an interview and next thing you know she’s on the couch, singing and having a great chat. I could have talked to her for longer! Nell’s story is fascinating. A hard working singer-songwriter who has an amazing voice, has financed her career to date through an extraordinary piece of luck and has a great personality to boot.
