The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala.

It’s not a random word generation or an epic fail from Google Translate; it’s the title of the new single from the Arctic Monkeys*, the second from Suck It And See. Here, have a shimmy at the video, directed by the Focus Creeps. It’s got a catsuit-wearing bird in who swoons a bit in a corridor. The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala is released on August 12th. Christ. Sounds like a threat from a psychotic zookeeper, doesn’t it? *Anyone else wish they were called the Artic Monkeys? Imagine articulated monkeys. Hoho! What larfs!

Gosh, This Doesn’t Half Border on Squee.

… aaaaand we’re over the hump of the week. Happy Wednesday afternoon, everyone! That bank holiday thing really helps time trot along, doesn’t it? ‘Course, it might have been less holliers our banking sector needed, what with the steaming pile of banjaxment we find ourselves in now. This’ll cheer you up. This is the video for The Water, by Johnny Flynn and Laura Marling. It’s the third single from Johnny’s album Been Listening, and it’s due for release on November 1st, and if you can find a video with a more beautiful song by two prettier people today, I’ll eat my hat, which, conveniently, is made from tiramisu. Aren’t they just darling?

And A Jingly Jangly Darwin Deez To You Too, Paddy!

… aaaaand we’re over the hump of the week. Happy Wednesday afternoon, everyone! This week’s celebratory melody comes from Mr. Darwin Deez, and though he looks like a 70′s PE teacher mating with a hedge, I do hope you’re not alarmed. This is the fantastic Constellations, which is special because it’s getting an Irish release this coming Friday, ahead of Darwin’s November tour dates. He plays the Roisin Dubh in Galway on the 7th, Cyprus Avenue in Cork on the 8th, and The Academy in Dublin on the 9th. Pop goes my pop-o-meter, so it’s nicely primed for the bank holiday weekend. Thank you, Mr. “tap-dancing hipster troubadour” (Christ) Darwin Deez!

I know I have a pair of white skinny jeans somewhere…

… aaaaand we’re over the hump of the week. Happy Wednesday afternoon, everyone! You haven’t, by any chance, made a resolution to be much more hip from here on in, have you? Perhaps to age backwards? To be Down With The Kids? Such a resolution, in itself, is ruddy tragic, but you may still fancy a listen of The Answering Machine’s latest song, Animals, to bolster your little journey. That’s an ortistic video they’ve got there, isn’t it? It’s NMETVtastic! The kids are readying the release of their second album, Lifeline, for early 2011, and I quite like that they’ve built on the buzz that their debut stuff drummed up, rather than overdosed and withered on it. Catchy, this. Did you like it? You can download it for free here. Hoopla!
