The Big, Big Music Round-Up #2

It’s been another busy week of music news…most especially for those of us who are signed up to more mailing lists than could possibly be healthy. Fox Jaw Bounty Hunter launch their debut album today. The Limerick four-piece spent five months in studio with Owen Lewis whose credits include working with the likes of REM and Snow Patrol and the result is The Devil in Music, the first single from which is ‘Thread the Needle’. “The single features an arrangement of musical notes to form a chord known as a tritone. In the Middle Ages this grouping of notes was frowned upon and in some cases banned for its demonic and evil sound, and thus was nicknamed ‘Diabolus in Musica’ – Latin for The Devil In Music.” I like the sound, I’m not sure about the vocals. Culch.ie’s Oxegen ’11 Soundtrack

It’s that time of year again. The full Oxegen 2011 line-up has been announced and you’ve got to make up your mind about whether you’re still young enough to enjoy dancing in a field and being covered in more muck than Babe. (A good indicator of youth is whether or not you remember Babe and if you don’t, piss off, we can’t afford to get any more frown lines glaring at you). Coldplay, The Script, Arctic Monkeys, Paulo Nutini, Foo Fighters, The Black Eyed Peas…those are the ones your Ma could name if the music police had her over a barrel (not that we’d be making assertions about anyone having your Ma over a barrel, hot and all as she obviously is, sure didn’t she make you).
